The Australian immigration has introduced new student visa rules for 2025 to streamline the visa application process for international students while maintaining high academic benchmarks. Students planning to study in Australia must be familiar with the latest Australia's new student visa regulations for 2025 to make informed decisions. The new student visa reforms in Australia include stricter documents and financial requirements, new age limits for several visa types, higher levels of English proficiency, and more.
One of the major student visa overhauls in Australia for international students is the mandatory requirement of including a valid Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) in applications post-January 1, 2025. The major reason behind the implication of certain reforms in student visa applications for Australia is to provide a simpler and smoother application system by ensuring clarity and transparency. Here are the major Australia student visa changes 2025 for international students:
According to the previous Australia student visa regulations, a letter of offer was enough to apply for a study permit. A letter of offer here is a document that states the candidate’s acceptance into an Australian university and it includes the terms of admission, course details, and fees.
Currently, a ‘Letter of Offer’ is replaced by a ‘Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)’ as a mandatory application document. This new rule for Australian student visa applications is effective from 1 January 2025. A confirmation of enrollment here is a document issued by the Australian university after acceptance of the offer and payment of due university tuition fees. All applications without CoE will be deemed invalid by Australian immigration.
A new Australian student visa cap is introduced effective from 2025. This year, Australian immigration will cap the overall international student enrollments at 2,70,000. This recent update aimed to address the recent challenges faced by students in the country from accommodation shortages to the high volume of international students in universities.
Effective from March 2024, the English language requirements for universities in Australia are increased with stricter evaluation, especially for specialised courses such as STEM fields. A higher level of English proficiency is required as per the new Australia student visa rules to ensure that the candidate’s qualification is as far as the chosen course of study. Here are the Engish language requirements 2025 for international students in Australia:
Australian Visa Type | Previous IELTS Requirements | New IELTS Requirements |
Student Visa | 5.5 | 6 |
ELICOS Studies (Pre-course) | 4.5 | 5.5 |
Foundation/Pathway courses | 5 | 5.5 |
Temporary Gradute Visa | 6 | 6.5 |
It is crucial for international students to show enough funds that cover the tuition fees and living expenses in Australia. The documents providing the proof of funds for Australia must be as per the new strict requirements with detailed information on housing, tuition, associated fees, books, and living expenses. Also, the financial documents must include at least AUD 29,710 as the minimum required funds. This amount is increased from AUD 24,505 which is applicable for all applications received by Australian immigration post 10 May 2024.

Hello,
If you have completed your MD from the Philippines and wish to practice or further study in Australia, you will need to follow the Australian Medical Council (AMC) process. First, verify your degree with ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) through EPIC verification. Then, choose the AMC pathway — typically the Standard Pathway (for non-specialists) which involves the AMC MCQ Exam and AMC Clinical Exam, or the Competent Authority Pathway if you qualify. If your aim is postgraduate training, you should also explore specialist medical colleges in Australia for recognition of prior training. Additionally, you will need to meet English proficiency requirements through IELTS or OET. Visa requirements will vary depending on whether you apply for work, training, or further studies. It’s a detailed process, so starting early and following official AMC guidelines is key.

Hi!
DASA eligibility for IIIT Hyderabad requires completion of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry at the senior secondary level outside India. If your NSW HSC curriculum lacks Chemistry, you need to meet that requirement separately.
Now, NIOS is an Indian board. Even though you’re abroad, if you take NIOS Chemistry, it technically counts as an Indian qualification, which might not satisfy the "outside India" clause in DASA rules. In many cases, DASA strictly requires all three subjects to be part of your recognised foreign school-leaving certificate.
Best approach you can confirm directly with DASA/IIITH admissions via email.
Consider taking Chemistry through an Australian-recognised pathway (e.g., Open High School or TAFE NSW) instead of NIOS.
