1.  Young Leaders’ Program

The Young Leader’s Program was introduced with an aim to deepen the participants' understanding about Japan and create a network of future leaders. The leadership program is facilitated to encourage and hone leadership qualities into aspirants with outstanding talent and understanding. The Young Leader’s Program is part of the Japanese government’s Scholarship Student systems. It is facilitated through the Japan Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology or MEXT: Monbukagakusho.

 

The scholarship covers the following fields of study:

 

a. School of Government – Hosted by the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, the programme is open to young government officials with work experiences in the field of public administration. The program duration is usually 1 year and aspirants will get a monthly stipend of Â¥242,000 under the scheme. Around 20 scholarships are available.

 

Eligibility:

  1. 3 years of work’s experience in the relevant field is required.
  2. Applicants should be under 35 years of age.
  3. Aspirants are expected to play active role in Asia and other countries in the area of public administration.

b. Business Administration- Hosted by Hitotsubashi University’s Graduate School of International Corporate Strategy, the scholarship is offered to 15 international students. The fellowship is offered for a Master of Business Administration degree course. The recipient will get an allowance of 242,000 yen and an economy class air ticket to the Narita International Airport.

 

Eligibility:

  • Age: Under 35 years old
  • Academic Background: Applicants must be college graduates who have achieved excellent results
  • Others: A minimum GMAT score of 600 and at least 3 years of work experience.

c. Local Governance- Hosted by the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, 15 scholarships are available for international aspirants to pursue a Master’s degree course.The recipient will get an allowance of 242,000 yen and an economy class air ticket to the Narita International Airport.

 

Eligibility:

  • Age: Under 40 years old
  • Academic Background: Applicants must be college graduates who have achieved excellent results
  • Others: At least 3 (three) years of work experience in the government
  •  A minimum TOEFL-PBT score of 550 or equivalent

d. Law- Hosted by Kyushu University’s Graduate School of Law, this scholarship requires applicants to be legal professionals, expected to play an active role as future national leaders in their respective countries. The scholarship can be availed by 15 students internationally.

Eligibility:

  • Age: Under 40 years old
  • English Ability-A minimum TOEFL (Paper-based) score of 550, TOEFL-CBT score of 213, or TOEFL-iBT score of 79-80, or equivalent.
  • Academic Background: Applicants must be college graduates who have attained a high level of academic achievement in their undergraduate study.
  • Work Experience: At least 4 years of work experience in the applicant's home country in a law office or in the legal section of a company or government department.

How to apply:

There are two ways to apply for the scholarship- Embassy Recommendation and application through Japanese universities

 

Embassy Recommendation- In this process, you are required to connect to the Embassy of Japan in your country. However, applications will have to be submitted to the concerned departments of your field of application. 

 

Application through Japanese Universities- In this process, the Japanese university conducts examinations of the international student candidates, and makes recommendations to MEXT of the research students or Japanese studies students. MEXT confers with the selection committee, and then makes its selections.

 

2.   Japanese Government Mext Scholarships for Undergraduate students

The Japan Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology(MEXT)or Monbukagakusho offers scholarships to international students who wish to pursue undergraduate studies at Japanese universities under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program.

 

The scholarship is available in the following fields of study:

 

1. Social Sciences and Humanities

  • Laws, Politics, Pedagogy, Sociology, Literature, History, Japanese Language and others
  • Economics, Business Administration
  • Natural Science
  • Science, Electric and Electronic Studies, Mechanical Studies, Civil Eng. & Architecture, Chemical Studies and others
  • Agricultural Studies, Hygienic Studies, Biology
  • Medicine, Dentistry

Recipients are provided a monthly stipend of 117,000 yen. An additional monthly stipend of 2,000 or 3,000 yen may be provided to those undertaking study or research in specially designated regions.

 

Eligibility:

  1. Nationality: Applicants must have the nationality of a country which has diplomatic relations with the Japanese government.
  2. Age: From 17 to 21 years
  3. Academic Background: 12-year regular school education or a graduate from a school equivalent to an upper secondary school in Japan.
  4. Japanese Language:  Applicants must be willing to learn the Japanese language
  5. Visa Requirement:     Applicants must have “College Student” visas before entering Japan.

 

3. Monbukagakusho Scholarship for College of Technology Students

Offered by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), the Monbukagakusho Scholarship for College of Technology Students is a schoalsrhip meant for international students to pursue studies at a Japanese college of technology under the Japanese Government.

 

The scholarship is offered in the following areas:

 
1. Mechanical Engineering; 
2. Electrical and Electronic Engineering; 
3. Information, Communication and Network Engineering; 
4. Materials Engineering; 
5. Architecture and Civil Engineering 
6 Maritime engineering  and so on.

 

Eligibility:

  1. Nationality: Applicants must have the nationality of a country which has diplomatic relations with the Japanese government.
  2. Age: From 17 to 21 years
  3. Academic Background: 12-year regular school education or a graduate from a school equivalent to an upper secondary school in Japan.
  4. Japanese Language:  Applicants must be willing to learn the Japanese language
  5. Visa Requirement:     Applicants must have “College Student” visas before entering Japan.

 

How to apply: Applicants have to submit the application form with required documents to the Japanese diplomatic mission. Applications usually close by mid June annually.

 

4.  Monbukagakusho: Mext Scholarship for Research Students

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships to international students who wish to study in graduate courses in Japanese universities either as (non-degree) student or regular student for a degree under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program. Applicants should apply for the field of study they majored in at university or its related field. The scholarship is offered  for one and half years to two years.

Each recipient will be provided with 143,000 yen per month (Research Students(non-regular students) while regular students in Master’s courses or professional graduate courses will get 144,000 yen. Regular students in doctoral courses will get 145,000 yen. An additional monthly stipend of 2,000 or 3,000 yen may be provided to those undertaking study or research in specially designated regions.

 

Eligibility:

  1. Nationality: Applicants must have the nationality of a country, which has diplomatic relations with the Japanese government.
  2. Age- Applicants should be atleast 35 or more by April.
  3. Academic Background:  Applicants must be a graduate from a Japanese university or have academic ability equal or superior to that of a Japanese university graduate.
  4. Japanese Language:  Applicants must be willing to learn the Japanese language
  5. Visa Requirement:     Applicants must have “College Student” visas before entering Japan.

How to apply: Applicants have to submit the application form with required documents to the Japanese diplomatic mission. Applications usually close by mid May annually. The application period is April or May generally.

 

5.  Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship by JASSO

The Japan Student Services Organization or JASSO offers the Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students accepted by a Japanese university, graduate school, junior college, college of technology, specialized training college, university preparatory course designated by Monbukagakusho: MEXT, or Japanese language institution. Recipients will receive a monthly stipend of ¥65,000. Around 10,000 students stand to receive this scholarship.

 

Eligibility:

  1. Written recommendation by college you have been admitted.
  2. Visa- “College student”visa status required.
  3. Students should meet the required grade point of the institute
  4. Monthly allowance from family should not exceed ¥90,000.
  5. Annual income of the financial supporter should be less than ¥5,000,000.

 

How to apply: Applicants must apply to their respective institutes and indicate their desire to be considered for the scholarship. The institute can, in turn, recommend the student for scholarship to JASSO. The period of application is between Late March to early May.

 

6.  Aichi Scholarship Program

The Aichi Prefectural Government extends scholarships to graduate level students from Asian countries nominated by the universities in Aichi. The scholarship is open to students from Asian coutries. The countries are -Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, East Timor, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam.

 

The scholarship covers living expenses of 150,000 yen per month in addition to travel cost and school expenses such as entrance examination fees, entrance fees and tuition for both research and graduate study.

 

Eligibility:

a. Age: Applicants should be under 35 years old of age at the time of application.
b. Academic background: 
Applicants must have a bachelor's degree or the equivalent.
c. Field of Study: 
Applicants must study a subject relevant to the Aichi’s manufacturing industry.
d. Japanese Language Ability: 
Applicants must have a fairly good command of the Japanese language to study and seek employment in Aichi.
e. Post-Scholarship Employment: 
Applicants must have the intention to seek employment at a company that has its headquarters or a branch office located within Aichi.
f. Internships: 
Applicants must participate in an internship program offered by companies during their programme organized by the Aichi Prefectural Government or another organization.
g. School: 
Applicants must study at a graduate school in Aichi.
h. Recommendation:
 Applicants must have a letter of recommendation from their intended place of study.

 

How to apply: Aspirants must apply through graduate schools located in Aichi. The governor of Aichi selects the scholarship recipients from among applicants recommended by the Aichi Scholarship Program Selection Committee. The application period is from march to May.

 

7.     Panasonic Scholarship

The Panasonic Scholarship is open for students who plan to pursue engineering from a university in Japan. The scholarship is open only to those who want to pursue Master’s degree in the field of engineering.

Students from China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam and India are eligible to apply for the Panasonic scholarship.

Benefits of the scholarship:

Research Student of Graduate School

  • Basic Scholarship of Â¥150,000 per month
  • Maximum tuition assistance of Â¥200,000 to be paid each half year

 

Master's Course of Graduate School

  • Basic Scholarship of   Â¥180,000 per month
  • Entrance Fee Assistance    
  • Maximum tuition assistance of  Â¥250,000 to be paid per each half year.

Eligibility:

  1. Nationality: Applicants must be citizens of the applicable countries
  2. Academic background: Applicants must be graduates or prospective graduates of universities and have completed 16 years of school education. However, applicants must have completed their bachelor degrees no more than 4 years prior to the date of their arrival in Japan.
  3.  Specialisation: Applicants must major in any one of the science, technology and engineering fields.
  4.  Japanese Language Proficiency: Applicants must have the desire to master the Japanese language.

How to apply: Aspirants have to approach the local Panasonic scholarship office  for information on the application procedure.  The applications are, generally, available from December to April.
