How to Make a Resume for an MBA?

Preparing a better resume for MBA requires careful attention to detail and a focus on highlighting your academic achievements, professional experience, and skills.

The resume document in the right MBA resume format enhances its outlook. As the MBA resume is different from the job resume, the content in the document must speak relevant to the MBA admission.

Adding additional details that are of no use to the MBA admission can occupy space in the resume and is also not worth seeking admission. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you prepare a strong MBA resume:

Work Experience

As per the reverse chronological format, the candidates can start the resume with recent experience and continue to the past ones.

  • Candidates can ignore the extra irrelevant experience if the resume can’t be fitted into one page.

  • Not all company's names can be identified or understood. If required, giving a small brief of the company and its activities in one or two lines in italics under the company name will convey the appropriate information to the reviewer.

  • Prioritize the initial bullet points in terms of relevancy to the MBA admission like business activities and leadership activities and move the remaining to the later points.

  • Mention the information as achievements and results but not just limited to responsibilities taken in the company.

Facts in terms of Figures - The resume is the crisp details of the candidate's profile. So focusing on the facts in numerical data format gives a quicker and better understanding of the capabilities of the candidates. For example, rather than stating I led a team in HC company. State as “ Led a team of 24 people in the marketing domain of HC company.

Education - All the degrees completed, extra training and certifications can be included in the education section itself. Giving the completion timeline gives accuracy for the details.

Extra Curricular Activities - The extra-curricular activities are advised to be kept in the last space in the MBA CV format. If the candidate has activities that are not relevant to the MBA, they can be ignored. If the candidate has the best activities that exhibit leadership qualities and other achievements that are relevant to the MBA course, then make sure to place them.
