About SAT 2024

What is SAT 2024 - A standardised test widely used for college admissions in abroad countries like the United States and Canada, etc. SAT exam is administered by the College Board, a non-profit organisation, and is designed to assess a student's readiness for college. The SAT full form is the Scholastic Assessment Test. The SAT 2024 primarily evaluates a student's mathematical, verbal, and writing skills. The SAT registration can be done from the official website - satsuite.collegeboard.org.

The SAT exam is mostly for high school students who plan to enrol in one of the SAT-accredited colleges. Usually, high school juniors and seniors (classes 11 and 12) take the SAT exam to seek admission at university. SAT 2024 is an accepted exam for admission to many schools and universities based in the United States, Canada, Australia, and many popular study destinations of the world. SAT exam is also accepted by many Indian universities for giving admission to undergraduate courses. SAT 2024 provides colleges with a common data point that can be used to compare the academic preparedness of applicants.

What is SAT Digital?

The SAT exam 2024 has gone through various changes and updates over the years, and one major transformation occurred when the College Board introduced the Digital SAT examination, a digital version of the test to adapt to the changing technological landscape.

This SAT is conducted seven times a year across 30 Indian cities, and hosted in more than 50 partnering institutions. What sets the SAT Digital exam apart is its streamlined nature; it takes 2 hours and 14 minutes to complete. Notably, the SAT Digital exam is one hour shorter compared to its previous version. Adding to the convenience, students are now allowed to bring their own laptops or iPads to the SAT test centres.

The transition to the digital SAT exam 2024 is a global initiative, with international students outside the United States being the first to experience this format in March 2023. On the other hand, US-based students will have the opportunity to take the SAT Digital Exam starting in 2024. This change aims to ensure that all students, regardless of their location, can benefit from a more modern and efficient testing experience.

SAT Digital exam pattern

The SAT Digital exam consists of two main sections: the reading and writing section and the mathematics section. Each SAT 2024 section is scored on a scale of 400 to 800 marks, with a potential total score of 1600 marks.

Importantly, SAT scores are calculated and reported based on individual section scores, providing a detailed breakdown of a student's performance in each area. This comprehensive scoring in the SAT system allows both students and colleges to gain valuable insights into a test-taker's academic strengths and weaknesses.

  • Understanding the SAT exam 2024 - Candidates should be clear about the format and the types of questions that appear on the exam for better SAT preparation.

  • Grasp Concepts - Candidates should ensure that they have a firm knowledge and understanding of the subject areas assessed by the SAT. This can be done through regular study and revision of the topics taught in school.

  • Practice/ Mock Tests - Candidates should solve SAT practice tests and mock tests in a timed environment to gain a semblance of the testing day procedures. Taking the practice test will also allow the candidate to pinpoint areas that need further study or SAT preparation.

  • Follow a Schedule - Candidates must maintain a schedule for SAT 2024 preparation to ensure regular study and practice in order to obtain a high SAT score.

SAT exam pattern: After 2024, the SAT exam pattern has changed in its digital format. As per the latest update, SAT is now divided into two primary sections: the Reading and Writing section, and the Mathematics section. All questions in the SAT exam are multiple-choice questions (MCQ), with the addition of 11 SPR (Student-Produced Response) type questions. The SAT exam duration is 2 hours and 14 minutes, which includes a 10-minute break in the middle.

The shift from the traditional once to the new SAT Digital has brought about several notable changes. Subject tests have been eliminated, and essays are no longer part of the SAT for international students. This has resulted in a significant reduction in the overall duration of the SAT Digital exam, nearly shaving off an hour of testing time. The total number of SAT questions has also been reduced.

What is SAT total marks?

After downloading your SAT report card, at the top of your score report, you'll see a large, bold number. This is your SAT Score, often called your "total score." It ranges from 400 to 1600. Right next to your total score, you'll find your score percentile, which tells you how your score compares to other students who took the SAT.

It's like a ranking that shows what percentage of test-takers did better or worse than you. Below your total score, there's something called your "Score Range." This SAT score range suggests the scores you might get if you took the SAT multiple times on different days. Some colleges may pay more attention to your score range of SAT 2024 than your total score when considering your application.

How to send the SAT score 2024 to the universities?

There are two ways to share the SAT score with the universities. First, the candidates can select the universities/colleges at the time of registration or any time between registration and 9 days after the date of the test. The second option is regular score reporting which is a paid option.

Sending SAT scores free of cost - Candidates can send SAT scores to a maximum of 4 universities or colleges free of cost. For this, they need to submit the names of the universities anytime between the registration and 9 days after the SAT attempt date.

SAT score report - Additional reports

Candidates can request additional score reports if they want to share the SAT score with more than 4 colleges or if they haven't given the names of the universities for free reporting. The additional score report can be done by login into the registered SAT account and by selecting the names of the universities. In doing so, the candidates will be charged around USD 12 per report. If the score report is requested by phone call, some additional charges will be applicable.

can a person give SAT after graduation

Lalbee 5th Jan, 2024

Hello Aspirant,

Yes, candidates who have completed their education in India and are seeking to pursue a different bachelor's degree, as well as those who need to meet the admission requirements by providing their SAT results, are fully qualified to take the SAT. There isn't a clear definition of age or age bar for SAT eligibility.

The College Board, the organization that administers the SAT, has not established a minimal level of education required of applicants. On the other hand, applicants who have recently graduated or who are still in high school are eligible to take the SAT.

Hey mentors, just curious....If a jee aspirant decides to actually repeat their class 12th(give boards again) Instead of taking the usual drop and theyve never sat in any kvpy exams before.... repeating the class 12th, will they now be eligible for kvpy-sx?

Tanya Gupta 24th Jan, 2024

Hello,

If a JEE aspirant decides to repeat their class 12th and has not appeared for any KVPY exams before, they can still be eligible for KVPY-SX. The eligibility criteria for KVPY-SX is based on the students performance in the Class 12th board exams. So, by repeating the class 12th and appearing for the board exams again, they would have a chance to meet the eligibility requirements for KVPY-SX. It is  always a better idea to cross check the official KVPY guidelines for the most accurate information.

Hope this helps you,

Thank you
