National Overseas Scholarship Scheme Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the National Overseas Scholarship 2025, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Educational Qualification: For Master's degree: Minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade in the Bachelor's degree

• Family Income: The combined income of the entire family from all sources should not exceed Rs. 8 lakh per annum in the previous financial year

Aspirants should note that to get the scholarship for the admission year, you must apply for the scholarship one year prior. so, the scholarships for the year 2025 have been awarded already. However, aspiring students can apply for this scholarship when the application reopens for the 2026 intake. the applications will start from somewhere around March - April. National Overseas Scholarship Scheme Selection Process

The selection process for the National Overseas Scholarship consists of two rounds, with a merit list created based on the ranking of the foreign universities or institutions from which candidates have received offers of admission, according to the latest QS rankings. Scholarships are awarded according to this merit list.

In the first round of selection, only candidates with unconditional offers of admission from the top 500 ranked foreign universities or institutions as per the latest QS rankings will be considered.

The QS ranking of the university campus in any other country will be considered as per the QS ranking of the university campus in that country. If there is no QS ranking available for its campus in another country, it will not be considered.

In the second round of selection, the following priority will be given:

1. Candidates having unconditional offer letters of admission from top 500 QS ranking institutions who applied in the second cycle.

2. Candidates having unconditional offer letters of admission from other QS-ranked institutions who have applied for the scholarship under the second round.

The selection process aims to ensure that the most deserving and academically qualified candidates from marginalised communities are awarded the National Overseas Scholarship to pursue higher education abroad and improve their economic and social status.

If the candidate is selected, they must submit the following documents upon the issuance of the Provisional Award Letter under the National Overseas Scholarship scheme for SC and other eligible categories:

National Overseas Scholarship Amount: Financial Assistance

The National Overseas Scholarship provides the following financial assistance to selected candidates:

Annual Maintenance Allowance:

• USD 15,400 per annum for candidates studying in the USA and other countries except the UK

• GBP 9,900 per annum for candidates studying in the UK

Contingency/Emergency Allowance:

• USD 1,500 per annum for candidates studying in the USA and other countries except the UK

• GBP 1,100 per annum for candidates studying in the UK

Tuition Fees:

• Actual tuition fees charged by the foreign educational institution

Student Visa Fees:

• Actual visa fees in Indian Rupees

The financial assistance is provided for the duration of the approved course or research, or until the end of the specified period, whichever comes first. The duration of the award is 4 years for Ph.D. and 3 years for Master's degree programs.
