HPAT Exam Format 2025

Section

HPAT Format

Section 1 (Logical reasoning and problem-solving)

This section includes information from a variety of generic sources, which are presented in brief paragraphs or graphs. The questions assess your ability to comprehend, make inferences, solve issues, find relevant facts, analyse data, identify additional or missing information, and generate and test logical concepts.

Section 2 (Interpersonal understanding)

This part evaluates your capacity to understand and think about other people. You will read a scenario, conversation, or text regarding a specific social issue and then answer a series of questions. These questions will assess your ability to detect, recognise, and even estimate the thoughts, feelings, behaviour, and intentions of the individuals in these circumstances.

Section 3 (Non-verbal reasoning)

Section 3 includes different kinds of questions. They are all based on form patterns or sequences. They assess one's ability to think logically and solve problems without using words.

Writing Task

There are two essay tasks to assess applicants' writing ability. The first assignment is on a formal public problem that involves arguing a point.

The second assignment is less formal and supports personal thought.

Two independent markers score each essay based on three points:

  • Thought and content: The quality of ideas.

  • Structure and organisation: Indicate how effectively the essay is put together.

  • Expression, style, and mechanics: The quality of the language used.

How to Prepare for HPAT Ireland?

Candidates preparing for the test can use the following HPAT exam preparation guidelines to improve their exam scores.

  • Questions on the HPAT-Ireland test are multiple-choice. There is no right or incorrect approach to finishing the HPAT. It is beneficial for you to create methods that are focused on your working style.

  • Each test component is timed separately.
