About University of Alaska

The University of Alaska is a public university that was established in 1917 and has six community and rural campuses and nine learning centers. UAF started functioning after the completion of its main building in 1922 having a faculty of seven people (including President Charles Bunnell) offered 16 classes to six students which grew to a capacity of 15 by the end of the academic year. Currently, UAF offers education in more than 100 disciplines, including vocational and technical programmes. The university is also well known for its research in the Pacific Rim and the circumpolar North and also, ranks among the top 100 universities in the nation for funding from the National Science Foundation.

University of Alaska, Fairbanks Admission Procedure-

  • Applications must be filled by students seeking admissions to the University of Alaska through the university website.
  • Students must submit their application forms along with required documents and pay the amount of fees.
  • Applicants need to submit their SAT or ACT scores for admissions to undergraduate programmes.
  • For admissions to the School of Management, candidates need to submit their GRE or GMAT scores.
  • For master and doctor of philosophy programmes, students need to submit their GRE scores.
  • For other graduate programmes, students need to have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • After completing all the procedures, students will be offered admissions after getting their documents verified and  admission fee payment.

University of Alaska Eligibility

  • Students need to submit a few additional documents like a school report, letters of recommendation, high school transcript, portfolio and a resume.
  • Transfer students who have more than 30-semester credits can submit their college transcripts while other students must submit high school transcripts and test scores along with their college transcripts.
  • Applicants whose first language is not English also need to qualify the English proficiency test such as the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System Academic (IELTS Academic) or Duolingo English Test.
  • For University of Alaska postgraduate programmes, students need to complete their undergraduate degree education in any relevant discipline from any accredited university or institute.
  • For admissions to UAF undergraduate programmes, students need to complete their high school education.
  • For certificate and associate degree programmes, students must be at least 18 years old or have a high school diploma, or must hold a General Educational Development (GED) diploma.

The Elmer E. Rasmuson Library has a huge collection including books, periodicals, photography, manuscripts, films, oral histories, rare books, and maps. It also has subject bibliographers, archivists, anthropologists, and historians on the APR staff available for reference and research assistance. The Rasmuson Library Video Collection has a collection of 10,000 videotapes and DVDs offering a wealth of academic subject areas as well as classic and contemporary feature films. The general collection at the Rasmuson Library has books, periodicals, serials, videos, scores, recorded music, electronic resources, and many other materials. It also offers other services like borrowing, printing, photocopying, etc. It also offers digital printing and high-resolution scanning to the university community and to the public.

The University of Alaska offers recreation facilities to students starting from the fitness centre, ice arena, pool, and climbing center. The students get the opportunity to indulge themselves in various kinds of sports and other activities to keep themselves active. The Center for Health and Counseling has trained professionals to share advice to students dealing with any psychological or mental issues. The Center offers services like general health care, health education, counseling, alcohol abuse evaluation, and student health insurance. The Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities helps students achieve their personal, academic, and career goals. The Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities is also responsible for student crisis management, student death management, sexual assault education and prevention, alcohol and drug education and prevention, student conflict resolution, other student service areas such as residence life, athletics, disability services, veterans and military services, Resource and Advocacy Center, and the Title IX office. The Department of Equity and Compliance deals with sexual harassment and discrimination cases and works for it to find a resolution to it. If anyone on the campus is treated wrongly based on their race, color, national origin, gender, religion, disability, age (over 40), genetic code, sexual orientation, or retaliation they can get in touch with the Department of Equity and Compliance. The Nanook Diversity and Action Council collaborate with other student organisations for promoting areas of age, gender, religion, ability, socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, culture, and sexual orientation. The Resource and Advocacy Center has its confidential advocate to offer any legal information on complainant's rights, information about the process of reporting to Title IX and/or law enforcement, sexual harassment, sexual violence, or domestic violence.

The University of Alaska offers various meal plans for students and faculty. The university offers a wide variety of menus in Dine 49 (Wood Center) and Arctic Java (Wood Center). All the meals are nutritious and fresh and are prepared to keep hygienic as the first priority. Students and faculty can also buy their groceries online and pick them up at Alaska Grill through Chartwells Market Basket.
