Step 1: Scores are calculated by taking the mean of the four individual scores, i.e., listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Step 2: Keeping in consideration the nearest half or whole band the reporting of IELTS Band scores 2020 is done.
If a candidate’s average across the four skills ends in .25, it is rounded up to the next half band.
If a candidate’s average ends in .75, then it is rounded up to the following whole band.
Therefore, a candidate who secures 6.5 for Reading, 6.5 for Listening, 7.0 for Speaking and 5.0 for Writing would be awarded an Overall Band Score of 6.5 (25/4 = 6.25 = Band 6.5) in IELTS result 2020.
Likewise, in the IELTS 2020 result a candidate achieving 4.0 for Listening, 3.5 for Reading, 4.0 for Writing and 4.0 for Speaking would be awarded an Overall Band Score of 4.0 (15.5/4 =3.875= Band 4.0).
On the other hand, a candidate achieving 6.5 for Listening, 6.5 for Reading, 5.5 for Writing and 6.0 for Speaking would be awarded band 6.0 (24.5/4 = 6.125 = Band 6) in the IELTS result 2020.
The Test Report Form (TRF) provides with the candidate’s overall band scores and band score for each of the four components, listening, reading, writing and speaking. The average of the four component scores, when rounded to the nearest whole or half band, is the Overall Band Score. There is equal weight provided to each of the component scores.
Test Report Forms (TRF) are available in two types, namely,
