    About School of Information Studies

    The School of Information Studies was developed as the center for research and education in the aspects of information management, information science and library science as a part of Syracuse University. It was initially established as the School of Library Science in 1896 but later, the name was changed to the School of Information Studies in 1974. Syracuse University was the first university to offer library programmes in the von Ranke Library. The School of Information Studies was the first school to introduce information studies.

    School of Information Studies Overview

    • The School of Information Studies started offering the Master of Science in Information Resources Management (IRM) in 1980.
    • The iSchool also established its first research centers in 1999 to celebrate innovation, research and development.
    • The School of Information Studies was also the first of its kind to encourage and support the student entrepreneurs of the university and run businesses with its own incubator.
    • The iSchool developed its first massive open course called An Introduction to Data Science in the year 2013.
    • School of Information Studies has various student organisations starting from athletic teams and sports to performing arts clubs and cultural social clubs.

    School of Information Studies Admission and Application

    • Aspirants looking for admissions need to apply through the Online Common Application available on the website of the university.
    • Submission of application forms must be done along with required documents and the amount of the application fee.
    • For admissions to undergraduate programmes, students must submit their ACT or SAT scores and for admissions to graduate programmes, candidates must submit their GRE or GMAT or LSAT scores.
    • Students are admitted to the university based on the evaluation of their application forms, exams scores and other eligible factors.
    • Before admissions, students also need to get their documents verified and payment of admission fee.

    School of Information Studies Eligibility

    • Students need to submit academic transcripts, evaluation letters, a personal statement and a resume.
    • For admissions to graduate programmes, students must have a bachelor’s degree and for master programme admissions, students need to have a high-school degree.
    • International students must have English as their native language or else proof of English proficiency tests have to be submitted such as the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System Academic (IELTS Academic).
    • Scores of Cambridge English Language Assessment or PTE (Pearson Test of English) or Duolingo English Test can also be accepted.
    • Scores of TOEFL or IELTS Academic shouldn't be older than two years.
