About School of Information

School of Information, also known as UMSI or iSchool is a part of the University of Michigan which offers bachelor, master and doctoral degrees in the areas of informatics and information science. It was established in 1969 with the aim of offering information and technology to build a better tomorrow. The School of Information was earlier known as the School of Information and Library Studies before 1992. It offers programmes bachelor and master programmes like Bachelor of Science in Information (BSI), Master of Science in Information (MSI) and Master of Health Informatics (MHI). In addition to that, it also offers other programmes like Master of Applied Data Science- Online and a doctoral degree.

  • The School of Information promotes research and development across various areas including Accessibility and Computing, Archives and Digital Curation, Collective Intelligence and Organizational Technology, Computational Social Science, Critical Studies of Design and Computing, Data Science, Analytics, and Visualization, Educational Technology and Learning Analytics, Health Informatics, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), ICTs and Social Change, Information Economics, Library and Information Science, Privacy and Security, Science, Technology, and Society, Social Media and Social Computing and Ubiquitous Computing.
  • It also offers Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) which offers various psychological services to students through tele-counselling, crisis support, and virtual outreach.
  • There are various student organisations at UMSI where students can learn and develop new skills and interact with other students and also interact with people from the U-M and Ann Arbor communities.

School of Information Admission and Application

Application deadline September,2024
  • Applicants interested in applying for admissions need to apply on the official portal of the University of Michigan.
  • Students are needed to submit their application forms along with all documents and by paying the amount of application fee.
  • The authority will approve the application forms based on several eligible factors.
  • Candidates can keep a track of their application forms by logging into their registered account and password.
  • Students will be called for getting their documents verified and for paying the admission fee after their application forms get approved.

School of Information Eligibility

  • Students applying to bachelor programmes must have completed their higher secondary education and for applying to master programmes students must complete a bachelor's degree or an international degree or equivalent.
  • Students must have a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. However, students having a GPA of less than 3.0 are also eligible and accepted based on their previous academic performance and application forms.
  • Students must also submit other official documents like academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, a short essay, a personal statement and a resume.
  • International students must have English as their first language or else they must submit scores of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System Academic (IELTS Academic).
  • Students who have completed all their undergraduate and graduate degrees in English are not required to take the English language test.
