The M.Sc in Nature, Society and Environmental Governance (MSc NSEG or NSEG) program is firmly based on the belief that addressing current global challenges requires intellectual rigor, innovation, and adaptability.
Students will have the opportunity to learn from a diverse range of experts in human and political geography, anthropology, science studies, environmental humanities, and environmental sciences. Rather than presenting a singular viewpoint on nature, society, or governance, the program aims to provide both theoretical and practical insights, as well as engage students in ongoing scholarly debates.
Through this course, students will be able to develop a well-rounded understanding of the dynamic relationships between environments and societies, grounded in both theoretical sophistication and empirical evidence. Students can expect to critically examine and challenge fundamental assumptions underlying concepts such as 'society', 'governance', 'environment', and 'nature', in order to develop conceptual tools for comprehending the complexities of contemporary global change.
It is also important to note that this program is not solely focused on environmental policy. Instead, it equips students with the necessary skills to tackle current global challenges from the perspectives of critical social theories, drawing from various disciplines.
