    About M.Phil Classical Archaeology

    The M.Phil in Classical Archaeology program is specifically tailored for individuals who wish to pursue a doctorate in Classical archaeology or for those who have prior experience in classical studies and desire to enhance their understanding of material culture. This program offers a unique combination of the MSt in Classical Archaeology's flexible curriculum, which allows students to select from a diverse range of broad periods and detailed options, along with the opportunity to conduct research on a topic of their choosing through the completion of a thesis. 

    During the first year of the program, students will have the opportunity to select one period option module from a list of typical period modules, which are outlined below.

    • Early Iron Age Greece, 1200-700 BC
    • Archaic, 800-480 BC
    • Classical, 500-300 BC
    • Hellenistic, 330-30 BC
    • Late Republican, 200-30 BC
    • Early Imperial, 30 BC-AD 120
    • Middle Imperial, AD 70-250
    • Late Antiquity, AD 280-650
    • Byzantine, AD 600-1453

    Students will also have the opportunity to select two additional option modules that will allow them to enhance their knowledge in a specific area of research. A list of common option subjects is provided below.

    Admission and Application

    For applying to the University of Oxford, students need to follow the procedure discussed below-

    • Students need to apply to the University of Oxford through the online UCAS application form.
    • While filling the UCAS application form, students will need to enter their education details, personal details, letters of reference. In addition to that, applicants also need to write a personal statement explaining why they have chosen the course they have applied for.
    • After filling all the details, applicants need to pay the UCAS application fee before submitting their forms.
    • Additionally, students also might have to clear few exams before getting admissions to the University of Oxford. Also, Oxford requires submission of a written work for offering admissions to many of its courses.
