The University of Cape Town or UCT was founded in the year 1829 and is South Africa's oldest leading teaching, and research university. It was established as a high school for boys in the name of South African College. But later in the year 1880 after the unearthing of gold and diamonds, the college got financial support to grow, and evolve into a university. This development happened between the years, 1880-1900 with the help of both government and private funding. Furthermore, during the period of 1902 to 1918, the Medical school got established, and several Engineering courses and an Education Department was introduced.
UCT also is known as "Moscow on the Hill" due to its sustainable opposition to apartheid, majorly in the field of higher education. This university has one of the most diverse cultural campuses in South Africa. There are several things that UCT works toward which includes issues like equal opportunity for all, protecting human rights, development needs of South Africa's democracy, and more.
