Volgograd State Medical University was established in 1935 and is one of the oldest specialized medical schools in Russia. Since its inception, the mission of the university has remained unchanged which is - to train highly qualified professionals at the international level for the health care system. Volgograd State Medical University is located in Volgograd which is located in the southern part of Russia on the west bank of the Volga River. Originally the university started as Stalingrad Medical Institute founded in 1935. In 1993 it was given the status of an Academy, and in 2003 it was granted the status of the University. It is now headed by Vladimir I. Petrov. The University is accredited by the Russian Ministry for Education for the teaching of both local and international students. Since 2000, Volgograd State Medical University has had the opportunity to teach in the English language to students from other countries.
With almost 60 years of expertise, the institution has been training international students in several fields of medicine since 1962. Today, over 4500 professionals with a VolgSMU diploma work in 127 countries across the world. Volgograd Medical University is well noted for its scientific schools, innovations in science, and scientific discoveries.
