About Jagiellonian University

Jagiellonian University is a public institution which is the oldest institution situated in Poland and is considered to be one of the oldest in the whole of Europe. The institution was founded on 12th May 1364 by the Polish king Casimir the Great. However, it got its modern name as “Jagiellonian University” in 1817.

With the help of 16 different discipline faculties of Jagiellonian University, it provides quality education to more than 40 thousand students from all over the world. Moreover, the university comprises over 4,000 academic staff who conduct research. The programme's framework is also made up of over 80 different fields of study.

Jagiellonian University Eligibility

All international students must demonstrate their eligibility to prove that they are qualified enough to be a part of Jagiellonian University. There are certain Jagiellonian University requirements as stated by the university which are as follows:

For Bachelor's studies (3 years) as well as integrated bachelors and masters studies (5-6 years), the  international students must have the following:

  • Candidates must showcase either a Polish high school leaving examination or its equivalent from any other country.

  • Candidates are required to show proof of Polish proficiency if the course selected is conducted in Polish. 

  • Candidates must show English proficiency up to the level of the selected course

  • The selection of candidates is purely based on an interview, exam or document analysis.

For Master's studies of 2 years (4 semesters), applicants from all over the world must have the following eligibility:

  • Candidates must have at least a diploma which states that they have completed their undergraduate studies and is equivalent to the appropriate Polish diploma.

  • A Polish language command is required for the course which is conducted in Polish.

  • The eligibility criteria differ from one graduate programme to another. Hence, there may be some other additional formal criteria for each field of study.

  • Candidates are reviewed and considered for admission on the basis of an interview, an entry exam and the qualification documents provided by them.

  • An appropriate level of English language is required as well.

English proficiency requirements

All international applicants are required to show their English level which must be as per the Jagiellonian University's entry requirement of the selected course of study. It is a mandatory prerequisite to be a part and get Jagiellonian University's admission.

The minimum required level is B2 or above for every kind of applicant. The documents which can be used as confirmation certificates of English language command include the following tests:

  • Cambridge B2 First (grade C or above)

  • Cambridge C1 Advanced

  • Cambridge C2 Proficiency

  • IELTS Academic with at least a 5.5 band score

  • TOEFL (min. iBT: 72 points, ITP: 543 points, CBT: 180 points)

Polish proficiency requirements

Every applicant who wants to apply for studies at the faculties of Pharmacy, Philosophy, Medicine, Management and Social Communication and inter-faculty individual humanities studies in Jagiellonian University is required to demonstrate their Polish language proficiency as the language of instruction of these courses is Polish.

It can be proven with the help of any document confirming knowledge of the Polish language at level B1. Some of the acceptable methods and certifications to showcase level B1 are mentioned below:

  • Certificate issued by the State Commission for Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language.
