PTE Exam Pattern 2023 - Pearson- the PTE AcademicTM conducting body prescribes the exam pattern of PTE Academic 2023. The PTE exam pattern is designed for aspirants who plan to study abroad but hail from countries where English is not the native language. PTE Academic 2023 test measures candidates on four language skills namely writing, speaking, reading, and listening. According to the exam pattern of PTE 2023, the writing and the speaking modules are integrated into one; Reading and Listening modules are designed separately. All the test takers are evaluated on the basis of the aggregate score obtained from the PTE Academic test. The total duration of the PTE Academic 2023 test which is computer-based is two hours ad 15 minutes. Candidates have to use a computer and a headset to listen, respond and read the questions. PTE Exam Pattern 2023 - Part 1: Speaking & Writing
This part of the PTE academic test evaluates both the writing and speaking abilities of an aspirant. As part of the PTE exam pattern 2023, candidates are asked to read aloud, repeat sentences, answer questions, re-tell a lecture, write a short essay, and summarize given paragraphs. The speaking section 1 contains a personal introduction part where the candidates have to introduce themselves within 30 seconds. However, this item is not scored, but it gives the candidates a chance to introduce themselves to the institute. On the computer screen the candidates can see a recording box and after a beep or tone, they are asked to speak immediately. There are many other items such as repeating a sentence or describing an image seen on the screen.

Note- Candidates should note that apart from the Listening and Speaking sections in the PTE exam pattern 2023, there is also a summary section (given in the table) where candidates are allotted 10 minutes, in which they have to read a paragraph and write a one-sentence summary of the passage. Students have to type the answers, though there are options to cut, copy or paste, in case they think it is necessary/worthwhile to do so. Candidates also have to write an essay in this section to display their writing ability (mentioned in the table).

The Reading section of the exam pattern of the PTE 2023 evaluates candidates’ reading skills. Test takers encounter a set of instructions to follow, after which they can answer accordingly.

PTE Exam Pattern 2023- Part 3: Listening
The listening section of the exam pattern of PTE 2023 consists of questions based on several audio clips. Part 3 comprises of questions that are completely based on audio or video clips. Candidates get to hear each audio or video clip only ONCE and are allowed to take notes to refer to.

Note- As one can see in the table above, candidates are given 10 minutes to summarize their answers. Candidates have to carefully listen to the audio recording which will be heard only once and then construct their answer. They must make sure that the summary is within 50-70 words (Summarize spoken text). After that candidates have to listen to a recording and answer multiple-choice questions (Multiple Choice, Multiple Answer). They can select the answers from various options available on the screen; the selected response will be highlighted in yellow.
It is advisable for candidates to completely read the instructions given on the screen before beginning the respective sections in the exam pattern of PTE 2023. Candidates must make sure not to go over the word limit specified on the screen.
