In the IELTS Writing section, candidates encounter two distinct questions. The subsequent question is an essay prompt, where candidates are expected to compose a 250-word essay in the remaining 40 minutes, resulting in a total of 60 minutes for the entire test. To enhance their scores, candidates are advised to undertake an ample amount of IELTS writing practice tests.

The Candidates are encouraged to write down their responses and subsequently compare them with the answers provided at the end of each question for a comprehensive self-evaluation.

ACADEMIC WRITING 1 - DATA INTERPRETATION - BAR DIAGRAMS

The railways of six European cities, Paris, Stockholm, Lisbon, Rome, Madrid, and Berlin are depicted in the bar graph above. Generally speaking, Lisbon has the largest number of commuters, whereas Paris has the oldest and greatest train network.

According to the bar diagram, the Paris railway was founded in 1863 and presently operates 400 kilometres of tracks. With its foundation in 1900, Stockholm's railway system is the second-oldest as well as the second-largest in the world, spanning about 200 km. For Rome and Lisbon, their respective founding years are 1976 and 1927. They have train lines that extend to 126 and 155 kilometres respectively. The smallest rail track in Madrid is only 11 km long and was established in 1981. Berlin, on the other hand, debuted in 2001 and included a 28-kilometer route.

When it comes to passenger service, the Lisbon rail system leads when compared to other city rail systems with over 200 million passengers annually. The Paris railway system only serves 775 million passengers annually, despite being the largest and oldest train system. Rome's passenger service each year is 144 million, which is three times more than that of Berlin and Madrid's train networks.

NOTE: The above type of question comes under the bar graph questions under the data interpretation task. They are very frequently seen in the previous IELTS examination. Though they are categorized into easy to moderate-level questions, this type of question also demands a lot of IELTS writing practice. Candidates are strongly recommended to engage in extensive IELTS writing practice tests to acquaint themselves with the test patterns and question formats.

SOLUTION

Primary school is favoured by some as the best age for kids to begin learning a foreign language, although this is a heavily debated topic. The pros and cons of implementing foreign language instruction in elementary schools will be discussed in this essay. The advantages of this strategy, in my opinion, outweigh any possible disadvantages.

The possible increased load on young learners is one major drawback of beginning foreign language instruction in elementary school. Many contend that young students may already be burdened with a significant amount of academic work throughout their early school years, and adding foreign language study might worsen their stress levels. For example, young students may find it difficult to efficiently manage their time, which can result in burnout and negatively affect their learning process as a whole.

However, there are several benefits to starting foreign language instruction in elementary schools. Early exposure can promote natural language development and improved cognitive development, as younger minds are typically more open to language acquisition. Studies have indicated that young children who begin learning a foreign language at an early age typically demonstrate greater learning capacity as well as improved pronunciation and fluency. For example, a Harvard University study discovered that students who started learning a foreign language in elementary school were significantly better in other subjects and demonstrated higher language proficiency than students who started in secondary school.

In conclusion, there are significant benefits to introducing foreign language instruction at the primary school level, despite potential worries regarding the increased workload for young learners. I believe that the best way to improve their language skills and nurture their general growth is to begin learning foreign languages in primary school instead of senior school.

NOTE : Advantages and Disadvantages essays are also an important type of IELTS writing assignment task under the essay type question. Engaging in extensive IELTS writing practice and attempting various IELTS writing practice tests can help candidates ace this type of essay question.
