About GMAT Focus Edition 2025

What is GMAT exam? GMAT is a computer-based adaptive test conducted by GMAC. GMAT is taken by students seeking admission to master’s programmes in management, business or MBA. The GMAT full form is Graduate Management Admission Test. Through the GMAT exam, the test takers can enrol in business or management-related courses in top B-schools worldwide. GMAT 2025 evaluates the analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills of an individual.

Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) introduced the GMAT exam - focus edition, an entrance exam for admission into business schools to more than 7700 programs provided by 2400 universities worldwide. The GMAT Exam Dates 2025 are available all round the year. The GMAT focus edition meets the demands of B-Schools and focuses on testing higher-order critical reasoning and data literacy skills. The new pattern of the GMAT exam is efficient, flexible, and insightfully redesigned considering the requirements of leading business schools and its wide number of courses, and programs available worldwide.

The GMAT focus edition is similar to the previous GMAT exam, it is a computer-based test that can be attempted from home or at a test centre. A major change is introduced in the GMAT exam pattern and syllabus. There are only three sections in the GMAT focus edition, with lowered test duration and insightful scoring.

Changes in the Test Pattern: GMAT Focus Edition

  • GMAT exam - focus edition duration is 2 hours and 15 minutes (exclusive of one optional break of 10 minutes).
  • There are three 45-minute sections and no essay. Candidates can attempt sections in any order.
  • Candidates can now bookmark and review as many GMAT questions as they want.
  • A new section called Data Insights (DI) is added to the GMAT focus edition syllabus, while sentence correction is removed.
  • The GMAT exam - focus edition score scale is 205-805. All three sections are weighed equally towards the total score.
  • The 2 reasoning sections of “Quantitative Reasoning & Verbal” are the same in the GMAT exam syllabus

GMAT Vs CAT Exam

GMAT or Graduate Management Admission Test and CAT or Common Admission Test are widely popular among business schools for giving admission to their programmes including the top business schools and IIMs as well. The one major difference between GMAT and CAT Exam is that the GMAT entrance test is accepted by business schools across the world while CAT is majorly popular amongst business schools in India. GMAT scores are also accepted by many top business schools in India as well. GMAT is usually given by students who wish to pursue business or management courses abroad. The IIMs accept the GMAT score of Indian domestic candidates for their executive management programmes. Also, there is a huge difference between the costs of both entrance tests. The GMAT costs $250, whereas, the CAT Exam costs Rs. 1100. So, the CAT Exam is relatively cheaper than GMAT.
