The University of Essex is a public research university in Colchester, England, and was established in 1965 by the royal charter. It is a member of the Russell Group, an alliance of research-intensive UK institutions, and is one of the original plate glass universities. The university is recognised for its strong industrial focus and high graduate employment rates.
