UGC Advisory for Education abroad
About: The University Grants Commission (UGC) of India is a statutory organisation set up by Union government in 1956, for the coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of university education. It provides recognition for universities in India, and provides funds for government-recognised universities and colleges. Its headquarters are in New Delhi, and six regional centres in Pune, Bhopal, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Guwahati and Bangalore.
Education Abroad: Amidst concerns about fraudulent degrees, false claims by foreign universities and cases of students being cheated out of their money, the UGC has put up a notice with regard to education abroad. This notice gives details of an advisory set up primarily for the benefit of those students who wish to go abroad for further studies but are not aware of the legitimacy of the colleges they enrol in.
To avoid misguidance by Foreign Universities/Institutions, students can contact the advisory for information regarding the accreditation status of foreign universities and the valuation and equivalence of degrees and diplomas awarded by the accredited universities abroad .They can even log onto the website to find out about the universities/ institutes
