Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland, is launching two new master’s degree programmes - MSc Information Technology for the Oil and Gas Industry and MSc Information and Network Security. The programmes have been included after consultations from RGU’s alumni at the sectors and the relevant industry representatives.

MSc Information Technology for the Oil and Gas Industry

The programme, MSc Information Technology for the Oil and Gas Industry is aimed for students wishing to join the Oil and Gas sector. The course structure has modules on both engineering and Information Technology, hence preparing students planning a career in the Oil and Gas Industry, to fit better.

The MSc Information Technology for the Oil and Gas Industrycourse structure will include:

  • Training in software development tools and techniques
  • Training in Information Technology service management
  • Modules in oil and gas engineering and petroleum geosciences

  • Applicants with an honours degree in a technical subject are preferred. This requirement might be relaxed for candidates with significant relevant industrial experience.
  • International applicants, whose first language is not English, need to provide evidence of linguistic ability by gaining either IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.

MSc Information and Network Security

The MSc Information and Network Securityprogramme aims to produce computing specialists who can design and maintain secure information systems and networks.

The MSc Information and Network Securityprogramme will help students to:

  • Know the legal requirements of information security and make them able to implement current information security standards
  • Become proficient in the use of  state-of–the-art principles, techniques, tools and methodologies  for  the design, implementation and maintenance of  secure information systems
  • Be able to design and maintain secure computer networks
  • Be able to safely recover an information system or network from a successful security attack.

MSc Information and Network Security Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants with an honours degree in computing or with significant computing content are preferred. This requirement might be relaxed for candidates with significant relevant industrial experience.
