International students as Ambassadors for London!
London Universities International Partnership (LUIP), and supported by London & Partners, have selected 30 international students to participate in a year long programme of activities extolling London as the best study destination.
About: the London Universities International Partnership (LUIP), and supported by London & Partners have launched a new initiative with international students who will become ambassadors for London. 30 selected students from the USA and India were presented with a symbolic key to the city to unlock the yearlong programme of activities that demonstrate why London is the world’s best study destination. By taking part in a series of learning, networking and behind-the-scenes tours with unprecedented access to the city’s iconic organisations and attractions, these students will be the open window to the other students while discovering the unrivalled opportunities available by studying in a multicultural, vibrant and creative city like London. Their impressions, experiences and ideas will be shared with the others in their country via blogs, tweets and videos.
The chosen ambassadors will benefit from a programme that includes behind the scene tours of classic London icons and museums; a ‘boot camp’ on leadership and entrepreneurship; a chance to experience what it is like to work in London’s pre-eminent creative and finance industries and an opportunity to meet Fortnum and Mason’s international buyer for a tea tasting. The students will have a crucial ambassadorial role on their return home as successful alumni and will continue to promote London back to their own country in partnership with the Mayor of London’s international promotional agency London & Partners.
Gary Davies Chair of LUIP feels that international students studying in London should experience the rich cultural heritage that exists in the city. The city plays host to over 110,000 international students from 210 countries in 9 universities that are top ranked in the world. Students studying here have the advantage of experiencing first-hand the advantages studying in a global city which they can use to share with their counterparts ascross the world via social networking, blogs, videos.
Katy Howell, CEO of social media consultancy who led the inaugural session states that the ambassadors will learn a new skill set via social media while understanding it; learning to increase their connections and communicate their own messages. A personal and intuitive way of communicating opens up through social media at the same time making it adventurous for the students to establish their online persona via tweeting, blogging, posting using their creativity.
