As a solution for the problem faced by a large number of Indian students of PG courses in UK, the ministry of Human Resource Development has introduced a Bridge Course. The newly proposed India-UK Bridge Course will resolve the bottleneck over India not recognizing one year postgraduate (PG) course from the United Kingdom.

Bridge Course introduced to recognize UK PG Course in India

As the format for PG programmes in India is of a two-year module, the one-year PG courses done by students at Universities in UK were not recognized in India. This was a major impasse for a lot of students. But now, the six-month Bridge Course will solve this issue and make Indian PG students at UK universities eligible for MPhil or direct PhD programmes in India. However, the India-UK Bridge Course is only for students having done post-graduation in humanities. Seven Indian universities have been shortlisted for the Bridge Course. They are:

  • Jawaharlal Nehru University
  • Central university of Hyderabad
  • Central University of Himachal Pradesh
  • Central University of Gujarat
  • University of Rajasthan
  • Kolkata University
  • Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar

The Human Resource Development ministry has also found a way out to recognize one-year management course done in the UK. In order to make their education recognized in India, one-year management students from UK need to do a six-month internship in an Indian company.
