BRICS Ranking 2016 - Chinese universities lead the Times Higher Education BRICS Ranking 2016 with Peking university making it to the top slot for the third consecutive time. Five universities from China have been placed in the top 10 BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2016.In terms of overall representation, too, China has shown a positive change as the country is represented by 39 universities among the top 200 universities- an increase of 11 universities from the previous year’s 26.
Tsinghua University, University of Science and Technology of China, Zhejiang University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University are the four universities besides Peking which have occupied almost 50% of the top 10 slots.
While China still dominates the BRICS rankings, countries like India, Russia and Brazil are also making major headway in the league tables. Second only to China and Taiwan, 16 Indian universities figure in the top 200 of the BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2016. While none of the universities from India still figure in the top 10 positions, the top two Indian institutes- Indian Institute of Science and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay have gain considerable points from last year to be in the 16th and 29th position respectively.
Russia’s Lomonosov Moscow State University has gone up by two positions to be at number 3 in this year’s ranking. Overall, Russia has 15 universities in the BRICS rankings 2016.
Brazil maintains its representation in the top 10 in the BRICS Ranking 2016 with the University of Sao Pualo making it to the 9th position. Overall Brazil has 14 universities in the top 200 of BRICS Ranking 2016.
