About IELTS 2023
What is IELTS?: IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is a standardised test that assesses a candidate's ability to understand and use the English language for communication. The full form of IELTS is the International English Language Testing System, which is required for International students who are planning to study or work in a country where English is the main language of communication. IDP IELTS is the administrative body that conducts IELTS in India. IELTS evaluates a candidate's ability to communicate in English and assesses them on basic skills - Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
IDP IELTS measures four key English language skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Test takers are assigned IELTS band scores for each of these skills, and these scores are used to determine eligibility for educational programmes, job positions, or immigration visas in English-speaking countries.
In many countries like the UK, Australia, New Zealand, USA, and Canada, the IELTS exam is required to get into universities. It's like a key that can unlock the door to your dream university in these countries. IELTS 2023 has long been regarded as the gold standard for assessing English language proficiency. For decades, this examination has enabled millions of individuals to achieve their dreams of studying or working abroad by demonstrating their command of the English language.
The IDP IELTS exam is conducted in two modes: a computer-based test and a paper-based test. Those who wish to take the computer-based IELTS exam will attempt the listening, reading and writing sections on a computer and take the speaking test face-to-face with an examiner. The IELTS registration 2023 can be done online from its official website, ielts.idp.com throughout the year. One can complete the online IELTS 2023 registration by paying the exam fee and selecting the nearest test centre and the suitable exam date. The IELTS exam fee for both Computer-based and Paper-based tests is INR 16,250.
Types of IELTS
IELTS offers two different types of exams: IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. Although the IELTS Listening and Speaking sections remain consistent across both tests, test seekers should note that the IELTS Writing and IELTS Reading sections differ in terms of content based on the specific exam taken.
Importantly, all three core sections (Reading, Writing, and Listening) are conducted consecutively on the same test day. However, the IELTS Speaking section offers flexibility, allowing candidates to complete it either a week before or after the main test date.
Which IELTS Exam is suitable for you?
The choice of whether IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training is "good" for you depends on your individual goals and needs. There are two primary types of IELTS tests available, and both tests, IELTS Academic vs IELTS General serve different purposes:
IELTS Academic:
This test is designed to assess your English language skills in an academic setting.
It focuses on academic language and evaluates whether you are prepared to pursue higher education or training in English abroad.
It's the best choice if you plan to study at a university or engage in academic programmes in an English-speaking country.
IELTS General Training:
This test measures your English language proficiency in practical, everyday situations.
It covers both workplace and social contexts, assessing your ability to communicate effectively in real-life situations.
This test is suitable if your goal is to work or live in an English-speaking country and you want to demonstrate your English language skills for immigration purposes.

Is it mandatory to take TOEFL or IELTS for the admission in NMIMS
Hi Sai Krishna,
First of all I need to know if you are talking about MBA/PGDM from NMIMS Mumbai/Bangalore/Hyderabad campus.
For admission to these 3 B-schools and pursuing MBA or PGDM in Business Management or HR Management you need to sit for NMAT by GMAC exam and crack it. There is no requirement of IELTS or TOEFL.
As far as NMAT is concerned it is held once a year, but the exam can be taken as per the candidate's suitable date within a window of around 2.5 months from October to mid of December. You also get to attempt the exam a maximum of three times as per your wish but you will have to pay everytime you take an attempt. The best of three scores are considered for you final selection. The exam is a non-negative marking exam. There are three sections in the NMAT exam. They are Quantitative Skills, Language Skills, and Logical Reasoning. There are in all 120 questions and 120 minutes to answer them. Although each of the section has fixed timings and a fixed number of questions.
Language Skills - 32 questions - 22 minutes
Quantitative Skills - 48 questions - 60 minutes
Logical Reasoning - 40 questions - 38 minutes
The sections can be ordered as per your convenience. If you prefer the CAT style then start with Language Skills and follow it up with the other two.
If you are someone who prefers Quants to Language skills, then it's best to start with Logical Reasoning, follow it up with Quantitative Skills and end with Language Skills. This is my personal favorite style as among the three sections, Logical Reasoning is the most taxing one and it's best to attempt it with a fresh mind. If you are average in Quants you can still ease through Quantitative Skills. Language Skills of NMAT is one of the easiest among other B-school entrance exams.
The entire exam is more of a test of speed. The level of questions are from easy to moderate with more of them being on the easier side. So, it's the speed that matters. Being a non-negative exam it becomes imperative that you don't leave any question. There is also no point in deliberating between two answers. Just mark one option and move to the next question. Don't think that you will come back to the question later on. Mark an option and mark the question for review and move on. If you get time you come back else let your luck have a go at it as you had already marked an option.
Now coming to the cutoffs.
NMIMS Bangalore and Hyderabad campus generally gives you a call with 185+ scores. 190 would be a safe score to expect a call for PGDM from those two campuses.
NMIMS Mumbai cutoffs go a bit higher. 207+ is a safe score to expect a call. So 210 onwards one should expect a call for sure for both MBA BM and HR from the Mumbai campus.
All three are pretty good campuses to pursue management education.
Please revert back for any further queries or help. Happy to help!!

I have got a drop in my final semester of BE production engineering.Am i eligible to get admission in German University ?
Hey Ashu!
You are surely eligible for admission in German universities, however, different universities have different criterias for determining your eligibility; depending on the college you are planning to apply to. Hence, it is advised to visit the college's (in which you are planning to apply to) website and check the same.
Your GRE and IELTS score shouldn't be a problem but the college authorities might ask for the reason behind that drop or you can include the reason in your application as well, as an additional note, to give them an insight into your situation and so that it isn't reflected badly on you and your application, if you have a genuine reason behind that.
For more information regarding German universities, it's requirements for studying there and the eligibility criteria of different colleges, you are advised to visit the following link: https://www.daad.de/en/
