About GRE 2023
GRE 2023 is an admissions test for professional and graduate schools across the world. Administered by ETS in more than 1000 locations across 160 countries, GRE is widely used for admissions to many graduate, business or law schools. GRE exam tests applicants on their verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking and analytical writing skills. The official GRE website is ets.org/gre.html. ETS GRE exam can be taken at an authorised GRE exam centre or at home. GRE is accepted in 1500+ business schools for MBA or MS admissions. Indian students must register for GRE exam at etsindia.org/gre. It is to be noted that GRE General Test is offered on a continuous basis across the world while GRE subject tests are held on specified dates.

1. The American Bar Association has approved using scores of GRE for law school admissions. Applicants can now use their GRE scores to apply to law schools in the USA.
2. GRE subjects tests have changes coming in from September 2023. The Subject tests of GRE will be offered in two modes - computer based and at home just like the GRE General Tests.
3. The duration of the GRE exam for Physics and Psychology will be reduced to 2 hours from September 2023.
4. Chemistry is no longer offered as a subject test from GRE 2023. The last test was held in April 2023 and the scores for those tests will be available for the next 5 years.

What is the full form of GRE?
Graduate Record Examination is the full form of GRE. The Educational Testing Service also called as ETS is the administrator for GRE exam. The official website of GRE 2023 is ets.org/gre. GRE exam is of two types- A GRE General test and GRE subject tests. The GRE General Test can be taken at one of the prometric centre or candidates can also opt for the GRE Home test in the convenience of their homes. GRE subject tests are offered in Chemistry, Physics , Mathematics and Psychology.
GRE General Test has questions on verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking and analytical writing skills that are required by all. Candidates are tested on skills required for pursuing graduate programmes in busniess and law. Top universities that accept GRE scores (General Test) are Stanford University, University of Virginia, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dartmouth College, University of California, Los Angeles to name a few. Scores of GRE test are available 10–15 days after the test date.
What is GRE Exam?
The Graduate Record Examination more popularly known as GRE exam is an entrance test used for admissions to MBA programmes, specialised master's programmes, dual degree programmes and doctoral business programmes across the world. The latest update on GRE is that its scores are now accepted by many law schools. Candidates looking to apply to leading graduate, business or law schools across the globe can use the scores of GRE exam for admissions. As mentioned above GRE exam is of two types - GRE General exam and GRE Subject exam.
Why take the GRE Test?
Any student who is interested in applying to the good MBS, law or dual degree programmes in top universities and institutes across the world can appear for GRE test and use the scores to avail admissions. GRE exam is commonly preferred and used by most of the good business, graduate and law schools for their admissions. The best of the scores in case of multiple GRE attempts is sent to the universities for admission purposes.
When should you take the GRE Test?
GRE ETS is offered 24 hours, all 365 days. Candidates can attempt the GRE General test once every 21 days. The number of attempts allowed for GRE Test (General) is 5 in one year. This is applicable even if there is cancellation of the previous GRE Test scores.
A few pointers to keep in mind while deciding when to take GRE Test, students are advised to ensure that test date is such that the scores are reported in time for the application deadlines. Generally scores of GRE test are sent approximately 10–15 days after the GRE test date.
GRE Subject tests are not offered all throughout the year. Currently they are offered in test centres three times a year in April, September and October as pen and paper exams. From September 2023, the Subject tests of GRE will be offered as computer based exams at both centres and at home. Also the duration for the Physics and Psychology test papers of GRE 2023 will be shortened to 2 hours. Chemistry as a subject test will no longer be offered with GRE subject tests.
What are the types of GRE Exam?
ETS conducts two types of GRE exam. The first is the GRE General Test which is taken by the majority of applicants for business programmes as well as the law aspirants. The second is the GRE Subject Test which is offered in a select few subjects and are taken by applicants of specific programmes as mandated by the universities or institutions offering them.
Apart from this basic difference in types of GRE exams, the mode is also of two different types (as per the GRE test):
GRE General Test
1. GRE General Test at a test centre: ETS GRE (General Test) is offered at more than 1000 authorized test centers across 160 cities around the world. GRE General Test is offered on all days throughout the year. Candidates can pick the GRE exam date and time based on their convenience.
2. The GRE General Test at home is also available around the clock. Candidates can book the GRE General Test 7 days a week as appointments are available as early as 24 hours after registration. However, candidates must meet the Equipment and Environment Requirements laid down by ETS.
GRE Subject Test
ETS administers the GRE Subject Tests for students who have an undergraduate major or extensive background in one of the following disciplines:

There is no fixed eligibility criteria to take the GRE exam. What are the IDs required for GRE registration?
This generally depends on the test region, country of citizenship (unless its a GRE test from home). For home proctored GRE tests, candidates are required to present a valid government-issued ID.
With few exceptions, all ID documents must meet the following requirements:
- It should be the original document
- It should be a physical ID
- A a government-issued national/state/province identity card that is recognized by the country in which the applicant is a citizen or permanent resident is acceptable
- be an original document; photocopied documents are not acceptable and documents cannot be presented on a cell phone or any other electronic device
- The ID must bear the first and last name of the applicant exactly (excluding accents) as it was when registering for the GRE test
- Must include the signature of the applicant (the name and signature submitted for GRE must match the ones in the ID)
- A recent, recognizable photograph must be included on the ID
Note: Any electronic ID issued to a mobile phone or any other electronic device is not acceptable. If the above conditions are not met by the ID submitted for GRE exam, the applications is liable to be rejected.

Reduction in GRE Exam Fee 2023
Vouchers issued from November 1, 2022: Candidates can use a GRE Fee Reduction Voucher for one GRE General Test and/or one GRE Subject Test. Students who have received a GRE Fee Reduction voucher need to pay $100 for the GRE General Test registration and/or 50% of the a GRE Subject Test regular fee (i.e., $75). Students who have registered for the General Test of GRE will also receive free access to the GRE test prep materials worth $100.
Vouchers issued prior to November 1, 2022: Candidates will have to pay 50% of the General Test fee. Candidates having any unused General Test voucher issued prior to November 1, 2022 will have to contact GRE Services at 1-609-771-7670 for the fee adjustment during registration for GRE 2023.
Who is eligible for GRE Fee reduction?
ETS provides the the facility for individuals in financial need, unemployed students and for national programs that work with underrepresented groups. Eligible students must belong to USA and plan to appear for GRE at United States, Puerto Rico, Guam or U.S. Virgin Islands.
What if I need to retest for GRE exam?
Test takers planning a retest can apply for another GRE Fee Reduction Voucher by completing and submitting the GRE Fee Reduction Request Form in pdf form that is available on the official website and mail to ETS. If approved, voucher numbers will be emailed within 2 weeks from the approval date.

GRE Syllabus 2023 is primarily dependent on the type of exam. There are two types of GRE exams so candidates must check for the syllabus of GRE 2023 accordingly. The GRE General 2023 exam primarily comprises 3 sections:
- Verbal Reasoning
- Quantitative Reasoning
- Analytical Writing Assessment
The Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections consist of multiple-choice questions with one answer correct and multiple-choice questions with more than one answer correct. The Analytical Writing Assessment section comprises 2 essay tasks. There is no negative marking in the GRE exam. Apart from the three scored GRE sections, another unscored section is provided by ETS for research purposes. This unscored section is either Quantitative or Verbal Reasoning and the candidate will not know which section is the unscored section prior to or after the exam. Verbal and Quantitative sections appear alternatively in the exam.

GRE Mathematics Exam Pattern
The GRE Subject Test 2023 for Mathematics comprises approximately 66 questions of multiple choice type. These questions are from mathematical topics which are generally covered in undergraduate level mathematics.
Approximately 50% of the Mathematics exam are based on calculus and its various applications. Another 25% are based on linear algebra, number theory, abstract algebra and elementary algebra. There is no specific syllabus for this GRE Subject Test.
GRE Physics Exam Pattern
The GRE Subject Test 2023 for Physics comprises approximately 100 multiple choice questions with 5 choice each. The test focuses on fundamental concepts of Physics which are generally covered in undergraduate education. Along with the test booklet, candidates are provided with requisite physical constants as well as SI conversion factors. The exam content can be broadly classified into the following subcategories:

GRE Exam Scores: One of the big questions asked in "When will I get my scores for GRE exam?" The official GRE exam scores will be available 10 to 15 days after the GRE exam date. Scores will be available in the ETS account of the candidate. ETS will also send an official Institution Score Report to the recepients of the GRE scores 2023. An email will also be sent to applicants notifying the declaration of the ETS GRE result.
Candidates can know the scores of GRE 2023 for Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning sections immediately after completion of the exam. The GRE Analytical Writing Assessment score is available 10-15 days after the test day.

Note: Candidates can also opt for a paper copy of their GRE scores. They should print the same from their ETS account. ETS will not send the GRE score report by mail in such a case.

Candidates who have appeared for the GRE exam must note that the official GRE Test-taker Score Report is available in the ETS account only and is intended for personal records. It contains the following details

- Date of birth
- Gender of candidate
- The intended graduate major as indicated by candidate in GRE application
- GRE exam dates
- GRE test score with associated percentile ranks obtained by the candidate
- Authorized score recipients or fellowship sponsors and the scores reported

GRE Details sent to Institutions
All candidates generally indicate the list of institutes they wish to send their GRE score report to. The details that ETS GRE sends include the following details
- Candidate's contact details including name, address, phone number, email, gender and date of birth
- The intended graduate major field as indicated by students
- GRE test dates and scores chosen by candidates to report with the help of the ScoreSelect® option with the associated percentile ranks
The GRE Test Score Report does not include the following
- Information regarding any other score recipients chosen
- Scores that were not chosen to be reported
- Any indication about other GRE tests taken by a candidate

What is ETS® Data Manager? The facility that allows availability of Photos and essay responses from each GRE General Test administration selected by a candidate from their 5-year reportable history is part of the ETS® Data Manager.
How long will GRE scores be reportable?

GRE Subject Test 2023 Score:
Each of the GRE Subject Tests 2023 is scored on a 200 to 990-point scale with increments of 10 points and the candidate’s raw score is determined by the number of questions he or she answers correctly. The GRE Subject Test for Psychology also features a score on a 20-99 point scale with increments of 1 point.
