The Higher and Technical Education Department has laid down eligibility criteria for admission of NRI/OCI/PIO, Children of Indian Workers in Gulf countries and Foreign Nationals. The aspirant should have completed and passed their Higher Secondary or HSC or an equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics as mandatory subjects. Also, they should have studied Chemistry or Biotechnology or Biology or Technical or Vocational subjects. The aspirant should have obtained at least 50% marks in all the subjects. Candidates are required to apply directly to the institutions of their choice.

Definitions for admission to these categories:
Persons of Indian Origin (PIO): An individual with foreign citizenship, except Pakistan and Bangladesh, without “NRI” status, holding a Foreign Passport at the time of applying for admission as well as during the study period and is himself/herself or anyone/both of his/her parents or anyone/both of his/her grandparents is/was/were Indian citizens.
Foreign Nationals: Citizens of countries other than India, who are not of Indian origin as defined under PIO.
Foreign Student: Foreign Student is a student who possesses a foreign passport.
Children of Indian workers in the Gulf Countries (CIWG): The children of an Indian who is working in Gulf Countries under relevant working visa.
NRI: Non-Resident Indian defined in the section 6 of the Income Tax Act 1961.
NRI Candidate: Child/ward of the person having ‘NRI status’ as defined under section 6 of the Income Tax Act.
