TOEFL Test Pattern 2019: The TOEFL® conducting body, ETS® (Educational Testing Service) administers the TOEFL examination to measure the ability of a non-native English speaker to read, write and speak English. Typically, there are four sections in the TOEFL 2019 test pattern, namely, Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing which take a total of about four and a half hours to complete. In accordance with the TOEFL test pattern 2019candidates appearing for TOEFL are required to solve integrated tasks that combine more than one skill; Reading, Listening and then Speaking in response to the given question, Listening and then speaking in response to the asked question, and Reading, Listening and then Writing in response to the given question. The TOEFL test pattern is similar worldwide and all the mock tests are prepared, keeping in mind the test pattern of TOEFL 2019.

Since preceding years, the marking/scoring pattern of the TOEFL test pattern 2019 remains unaltered. Following are the four sections and their score distribution:-

  • Reading Section (Score of 0–30)

  • Listening Section (Score of 0–30)

  • Speaking Section (Score of 0–30)

  • Writing Section (Score of 0–30)

  • Total TOEFL result (0–120)

Test takers will receive individual TOEFL 2019 scores for each section along with the overall TOEFL result. Candidates from some regions like Mainland China, India, Japan, Korea or Taiwan are eligible to apply for the TOEFL scholarships depending on their obtained score. The sectional break-up of the four modules in TOEFL Test pattern 2019 with allotted marks are provided underneath:

Should I take the TOEFL test in class 11th or 12th?

Aman Raj Student Expert 17th Oct, 2019

Hello

I think class 11th is most suitable for this condition as you don't want to mess up with the boards in class 12th so 11th is apt for this.

So, begin preparing for TOEFL and SAT together. SAT and TOEFL have a lot of similarities, except Speaking and listening in TOEFL and Maths in SAT.

3 months is more than enough time to prepare for both, in fact, if you already have elementary english perfected. TOEFL won't require more than a week. So don't worry for TOEFL.

SAT will take in reading skills that will demand your consistent concentration and focus. Maths in SAT is filthy easy! Just practice for 3 days straight and a 800 is guaranteed. Writing will also demand attention. So you need to work very hard to get 2000+. Afterall, You get scholarship on the basis of SAT. (there are other factors too).

Vocabulary will be a nagging topic (for me it was). And if you do it, you are half way through !

So, plan 3-months, when you work only for the SAT and the TOEFL. once cleared, get back to studies, work hard.

what can i do after gmat result. is toefl exam occur after gmat result? can i have to apply for visa after gmat result?

Manidipa Kundu Student Expert 5th Oct, 2019

hello aspirant,

see you can give toefel exam any time. because almost every month toefel exam has slot. you need to just prepare yourself. and toefel exam has no link with gmat exam. you need to apply separately for toefel as it is a english language proficiency test. you can apply for visa after gmat exam. before applying do multiple checking of eligibility criteria and marks requirement, visa permit everything. it would be best if you take some professional help. please search in your city if there is any professional who help with visa application process.

Is it mandatory to take TOEFL or IELTS for the admission in NMIMS

Satyaki Chakraborty 18th Sep, 2019

Hi Sai Krishna,

First of all I need to know if you are talking about MBA/PGDM from NMIMS Mumbai/Bangalore/Hyderabad campus.

For admission to these 3 B-schools and pursuing MBA or PGDM in Business Management or HR Management you need to sit for NMAT by GMAC exam and crack it. There is no requirement of IELTS or TOEFL.

As far as NMAT is concerned it is held once a year, but the exam can be taken as per the candidate's suitable date within a window of around 2.5 months from October to mid of December. You also get to attempt the exam a maximum of three times as per your wish but you will have to pay everytime you take an attempt. The best of three scores are considered for you final selection. The exam is a non-negative marking exam. There are three sections in the NMAT exam. They are Quantitative Skills, Language Skills, and Logical Reasoning. There are in all 120 questions and 120 minutes to answer them. Although each of the section has fixed timings and a fixed number of questions.

Language Skills - 32 questions - 22 minutes

Quantitative Skills - 48 questions - 60 minutes

Logical Reasoning - 40 questions - 38 minutes

The sections can be ordered as per your convenience. If you prefer the CAT style then start with Language Skills and follow it up with the other two.

If you are someone who prefers Quants to Language skills, then it's best to start with Logical Reasoning, follow it up with Quantitative Skills and end with Language Skills. This is my personal favorite style as among the three sections, Logical Reasoning is the most taxing one and it's best to attempt it with a fresh mind. If you are average in Quants you can still ease through Quantitative Skills. Language Skills of NMAT is one of the easiest among other B-school entrance exams.

The entire exam is more of a test of speed. The level of questions are from easy to moderate with more of them being on the easier side. So, it's the speed that matters. Being a non-negative exam it becomes imperative that you don't leave any question. There is also no point in deliberating between two answers. Just mark one option and move to the next question. Don't think that you will come back to the question later on. Mark an option and mark the question for review and move on. If you get time you come back else let your luck have a go at it as you had already marked an option.

Now coming to the cutoffs.

NMIMS Bangalore and Hyderabad campus generally gives you a call with 185+ scores. 190 would be a safe score to expect a call for PGDM from those two campuses.

NMIMS Mumbai cutoffs go a bit higher. 207+ is a safe score to expect a call. So 210 onwards one should expect a call for sure for both MBA BM and HR from the Mumbai campus.

All three are pretty good campuses to pursue management education.

Please revert back for any further queries or help. Happy to help!!
