Resume
is one of the major documents a student needs to submit while applying for higher studies in a foreign university or while looking for scholarships and funding to support his studies. Here are a few tips to make your resume stand out among the other applications:

Know the purpose of the resume

The first and foremost thing you must keep in mind while writing a resume is to understand the purpose. Many a time, people create resume just like a document that lists wanted and unwanted information. It is very important how you present the information. For example, a student applying for MBA must highlight his accomplishments related to the field. He should also make sure that the information is positioned in such a way that the admissions committee will take note of it at a first glance. Always put the most important information first.

Length of the resume

There is no point in writing a lengthy resume if it does not catch the attention of the reader. You should not make the resume very lengthy as a long document is a major put off for the admissions committee especially when they have thousands of applications to go through. The length of the resume can be reduced by giving only the necessary and important information and formatting the resume using bullet points and number. Make sure you are not providing much information in big paragraphs as it will reduce the interest of the reader.

Resume content

The most important aspect is what goes into a resume. While writing in depth about the achievements, some people forget to provide the most important and basic information such as contact details (email, phone number and address) and professional social media presence. You should not include your photograph in the resume unless the institution demands so.

Format the resume

It is not only the content that matters when it comes to writing resume for college admissions. Formatting includes the usage of the appropriate font, margins and headings. You must not experiment with the font in the resume. Use a standard font such as Times New Roman or Calibri with a font size between 10 and 12. Apply bold and italics whenever necessary- to make the reader distinguish between different sets of information. Use bullets and numbering when talking about most important information such as achievements, previous experience and accomplishments. You must also use wide margins to increase the readability of the resume. If you are sending the resume by post, make sure that the print quality is good and the letters are readable enough.

Check for errors

After writing the resume, cross check it to make you resume error –free. It is very important to make sure that the resume must be free from grammatical errors and typing mistakes. One small typo or careless grammatical error may cost admission in your dream university.
