In the SAT preparation tips, we have taken each component of the SAT 2018 Pattern- Writing, Critical Reading and Mathematics separately and have provided tips to help candidates to perform well in the exam.

SAT Preparation Tips: Writing and Language Test

The writing section of SAT 2018 comprises of two tasks. They are multiple-choice questions and an essay.

The multiple-choice questions include sentence correction where test takers would be required to select the right answer from a list of given choices.

In addition, candidates need to write an essay on a relevant topic as well.

SAT 2018 Preparation Tips to crack:

Grammar: To begin with SAT Preparation tips, the first step is to get grammar accurate. The multiple-choice questions which involve selecting the right answer will mostly test the grammar skills. So, aspirants should practice the basic English grammar and refer to books like Wren and Martins. Besides, there are many websites, which provide aid in improving grammar through several practice tests.

Read: Preparation remains incomplete without reading. Since test takers would be asked to write an essay, the best way to prepare for it would be to remain updated with the recent happenings across the globe. This will help to put the point across at the time of writing the essay.

Write sample essays: Choosing any topic and writing on it will help in improving the thought process. The most common topics that usually come in SAT 2018 can be considered, to begin with. It is important to know the points mentioned below while writing:

  1. Which direction do you want to give your argument essay?

  2. Pen down all points for or against the issue.

  3. Filter your points. Select only those points that are based on reason.

  4. Divide your argument into sections to make your points clear.

SAT Preparation Tips: Critical Reading

The Critical Reading section has two main tasks. They are sentence completion and reading comprehension. Both the sections test your vocabulary and skills at analysis.

SAT 2018 Preparation Tips to crack:

Brush up vocabulary: The sentence completion task is similar to the basic fill in the blanks.  So, it is vital to be updated with the latest vocabulary tips.

Practice sample papers: Practising SAT Sample Papers can fetch candidates good scores. The critical reading section should not be left for the last moment. Sample tests prepare for the critical reading section of the SAT test.

Scan for the right answer: Analysing the answer choices carefully and checking for a word similar to the one selected help test takers to gain grasp over the section. It is equally important to eliminate the choices that do not match up to their selection point of view.

SAT Preparation Tips: Mathematics

The Mathematical section consists of multiple-choice questions as well. It is imperative that the basic concepts in mathematics are clear.

Practice: The SAT 2018 preparation tips are incomplete without this step. The only way to crack this section is by practising. Practising and repeating the exercise are the only keys to success.  There are many sample papers on mathematics available online as well. These papers usually help to understand the kind of questions that come in SAT mathematics section.

Concepts should be clear: It is important to get the concepts clear pertaining to elementary mathematics. Since SAT is taken for college-level admission, the topics are mostly fresh out of high school mathematics. So, the high school mathematics books should be kept handy for reference.

Remember Mathematical Rules: Since the area of mathematics is vast, it is difficult to practice and repeat all types of topics. It is, therefore, advisable that one should memorize and remember the mathematical rules. Especially, in geometry. The theories should be clear. It is, of course, not necessary that candidates would be asked direct theories but can expect questions based on the application of the geometrical theories.

Other SAT Preparation Tips:

  1. Get the concepts right- Students must first get their concepts right. It is advised students must first understand the pattern and learn basic concepts before beginning practice for SAT 2018.

  2. A lot of practice- Students cannot dream of scoring really high without any practice. Regular practice will help in releasing exam stress as well.

  3. Time- Since SAT is a four-hour long test, candidates should ensure to give an adequate amount of time for each section. However, that does not allow test takers to waste time on answers that are not known to them.

  4. Last minute preparation is not worthy- This may sound exciting, but doing so will only stress the candidate out before taking the exam. It is best if you divide one's preparation time and time for leisure. One can always go out with friends to relax and prepare sincerely during the study hours.

  5. When practising mock papers, the focus should be on the mistakes committed. Practise again until they are accurate.

What is the difference between subject SAT test and General SAT ???If one has to give SAT for biology what will be the syllabus ???

hrithik jain 10th Feb, 2020

Hello,

The main and the biggest difference is that General SAT tests for the general Knowledge and critical reasoning while SAT subject test your knowledge in specific areas say: biology, math etc.

Also, General SAT is around 3 hours paper whereas, SAT subject is a 1 hour paper. General SAT is offered for around 7 times a year and SAT Subject is offered for like 6 times a year that too, depending on the subject (date wise).

There are two test for SAT Biology- Biology (E) and Biology (M), you cannot take both of them on the same date. (E) stands for Ecological and (M) for Molecular. The syllabus topics are as follows:

1. Cellular and Molecular Biology- 15%(E) and 27%(M)

2. Ecology - 23%(E) and 13%(M)

3. Genetics - 15%(E) and 20%(M)

4. Organismal Biology- 25%(E) and 25%(M)

5.  Evolution and Diversity - 22%(E) 15%(M )

*Consider these figures to be approximate and cross check before finalizing.
