NRI Quota for Top Engineering colleges in UP – There are 306 institutions in Uttar Pradesh (UP) with a total intake of 128207 students for various branches of engineering. The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has approved a few seats in these colleges for Non Resident Indians (NRI), Foreign Nationals (FN), Persons Of Indian Origin (PIO) as well as Children Of Indian Workers In Gulf Countries (CIWGC). A total of 158 seats are available in different branches for NRI applicants. Additionally, 204 seats are reserved for the FN, PIO and CIWG category applicants.
The colleges are government, government aided, deemed universities as well as unaided – private. A few of these colleges are affiliated to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow.

NRI aspirants having the required qualifications can be offered direct admission on
AICTE approved 5% seats reserved for NRI applicants in Govt. / Govt. aided and Private Institutions. Seats are offered on merit basis. Aspirants interested in admission under his criteria are not required to appear for the UPSEE. Aspirants interested to pursue B.Arch programme are required to take an aptitude test on the day of the counselling.
For admission to the AICTE approved seats under the NRI/CIWG/FN/PIO categories, the applicants are required to:
have a minimum academic qualification in the 10+2 or its equivalent with a minimum of 60% marks in Physics & Mathematics.
The merit shall be decided based on the scores of four subjects in 10+2 examination results. The two compulsory subjects are Physics and Mathematics and any two from Chemistry, Biotechnology/ Biology, Computer Science & English.
Eligibility Criteria for Year of Qualifying Examination
Applicants appearing their final examination in 2018 are also eligible for provisional admission
The students who are offered a provisional admission have to submit the proof of passing the qualifying examination (Class 12th or equivalent) to the relevant authority by September 30, 2018 or the provisional admission will be cancelled.
In case the results of the qualifying examination is declared after September 30, 2018, candidates are advised to apply for admission the next year. The university does not accept requests for extension of submission dates.

As many as 15% of the total number of the sanctioned seats in private colleges are allowed by the UP State government to be filled by the Management quota /NRI candidates. The seats will be filled up in accordance with the procedure prescribed in the Govt. orders. The seats remaining in the courses affiliated to AKTU, Lucknow will be filled through UPSEE-2018 counselling.
Admission to Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Candidates in First Year
The qualified NRI aspirants can get direct admission on 5% seats of total intake in various Government/ Government-aided and private institutions on merit, subject to the latest instructions of These aspirants need not appear in UPSEE-2018. However, the B.Arch. aspirants are required to appear in an Aptitude Test which would be conducted on the day of counselling.
Admission to FN/PIO/ CIWGC
Institutions approved and identified by the AICTE will admit FN/PIO/CIWGC. These supernumerary seats are exclusively for FN/PIO/CIWGC students. Similar to the NRI aspirants, these aspirants are not required to appear for UPSEE-2018. The B.Arch. course does not exist for such candidates
Eligibility for Admission to NRI Quota in First Year
NRI aspirants are eligible for direct admission to 5% seats of total intake in State Funded and Private Institutions of Uttar Pradesh in all other courses barring MBA and MCA. However, NRI applicants opting for the B.Arch. Programme have to take an Aptitude Test scheduled on the on the counselling day.
1. The NRI quota seats is available to only those NRIs, who
a) have cleared the qualifying exam in a specific subjects(Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) from an Institution located outside India considered equivalent to the Indian (10+2) examination by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
have passed their High School Certificate Education (GCE) (Physics, Chemistry and Higher Mathematics (A) with from London / Cambridge / Sri Lanka.
b) have taken the SAT II examination (Mathematics level II C, Physics and Chemistry). The merit will be decided on their SAT score.
2. Unfilled seats NRI quota seats can be offered to the children or siblings of NRI’s who have passed intermediate or (10+2) or equivalent examination from an Indian institution with physics, chemistry and mathematics without grace in each and have secure a minimum of 60% marks (55% for SC/ST) in physics, chemistry and mathematics taken together.
3. The relative merit of NRI candidates shall be decided based on the total marks obtained in physics, chemistry and mathematics. These applicants are not required to take the UPSEE.
4. The NRI candidates are required to submit an NRI certificate obtained from respective Indian Diplomatic Mission / Chancellery / High Commission at the time of counselling.
5. The applicant is also required to submit sufficient documents clarifying the true relationship between the sponsoring NRI and the applicant.
6. The NRI applicant will be informed of the counselling date as well as the number of seats available under this quota. The applicant is required to the be present in person on the counselling day with original documents and certificates without which their admission offer will be cancelled.
7. The last date of the counselling announced by the government of UP is applicable for NRI admissions as well.

Eligibility for Admission FN/ PIO/ CIWGC in First Year
The FN/PIO/CIWGC seats shall be filled by FN/ PIO's/CIWGC aspirants who:
(i) have passed the qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics declared equivalent to (10+2) examination by Association of Indian Universities
(ii) can submit a copy of their passport or any equivalent evidence to prove their nationality/citizenship
The merit of these students will be based on the marks scored in their qualifying examination.
The latest orders issued by Govt. of U.P. upto the date of admission will be applicable in FN/PIO/CIWGC.
Eligibility for Direct Admission to 1st First Year in Private Institutions at Institute Level under Management Quota (For NRI candidates) / Vacant Seats UPSEE Counselling
(i) As many as 15% seats in private institutions will be filled by the Management/ NRI quota at institute level under management quota as per eligibility criteria. The vacant seats in this quota (NRI/Management) shall be filled in following preference within two weeks of the last date of counselling:
a) First preference to the JEE main qualified who fulfil the eligibility for B. Tech. / B.Arch. The merit will be decided on the basis of the rank secured in entrance examinations.
b) Second preference to the UPSEE-2018 qualified candidates who fulfil the eligibility. The merit will be decided on the basis of the rank secured in UPSEE-2018.
c) Third preference to the candidates who have qualified the exam laid the AICTE for various programmes.
(ii) The information of the filling of the vacant seats shall be done through an advertisement in at least two leading newspapers and the institution website giving the aspirants at least one week time to submit the applications on the university portal.
