NRI Admissions: Know Private Medical Colleges in Maharashtra

NRI Quota in Private Medical Colleges in Maharashtra - There are 14 private medical colleges in Maharashtra with approximately 2020 seats offering admission for MBBS course. Approximately, 250 seats out of the total are available for aspirants from the NRI category. MBBS admissions in Maharashtra is conducted by the conducting authority Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Mumbai. The private medical colleges in Maharashtra are affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik.

The admission for the MBBS programme for NRI is same as that for the resident Indian candidates. Candidates are required to qualify the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to be held on May 5, 2019 and register for the counselling process with the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Mumbai. Aspirants are selected on their merit. The merit is decided by the NEET score obtained by the candidates.

NRI definition

As per the definition passed by the Hon’ble Pravesh Niyamtran Samiti, it is clear that the persons having first blood degree relation with the student will be considered as sponsored of the candidate for granting admission in NRI quota. 

As per a Supreme Court order, the eligibility criteria for NRI seat aspirants is

  1. One of the parents should be an NRI and shall ordinarily be residing abroad as an NRI
  2. The person who sponsors the student for admission should be a first-degree relation of the student and should be residing abroad as an NRI
  3. If the student has no parents or near relatives or taken as a ward by some other nearest relative such students also may be considered provided the guardian has bona fide treated the student as a ward and such guardian shall file an affidavit indicating the interest shown in the affairs of the student and also his relationship with the student and such a person should be an NRI, and ordinarily residing abroad.

The documents are to be submitted during the time of document verification in original or duly attested. Each page of the document with full text should be properly attested. The details are:

  • Father/Mother of the candidate.

  • Real brother/sister or,

  • Father/mother of the father i.e. paternal grandfather/grandmother, or

  • Father/mother of mother i.e. maternal grandfather/grandmother or,

  • Real brother/sister of Father/mother, or,

  • First degree paternal and maternal cousin, i.e. children of the above

The sponsor should be NRI and should ordinarily be residing abroad, with documentary evidence to that and also affidavit in support of the above-mentioned facts

The following documents:

  • Affidavit of the claimant/ sponsorer disclosing the full identity

  1. Full name

  2. Age

  3. residence

  4. occupation

  5. relationship with the candidates

  • Sponsor’s valid passport

  • Certificate from the Embassy stating NRI status of the sponsor

  • Proof of residence of the sponsor showing a minimum of 182 days of stay abroad in the academic year of admission, prior to the admission date, or,

  • Proof of residence i.e. Telephone bill, property tax copy, Electricity Bill, Rent receipt, lease agreement, etc

  • If the sponsor/student is an Overseas Citizen of India and is a foreign national, the following documents are required to be submitted

  1. Sponsor/ student’s valid passport and OCI card

  2. Sponsor or Students original affidavit in the prescribed format (Annexure A)

  3. Original Affidavit of the father/mother of the student in the prescribed format

  • Proof of relationship between the sponsor and the candidates

  1. Affidavit of the claimant disclosing his full identity i.e. full name, age, residence, occupation, relationship along with family tree duly signed by the candidate/ student or his/ her parents in the prescribed format (Annexure B)

  2. Leaving certificates/ Birth extracts/ Marks Sheet/PAN card/Passport/Marriage Certificate etc of concerned relative members shown on the family chart or tree
