In today’s age when the issue of glass ceiling is much talked about, the admission analysis of top 10 B Schools across the world brings in a cheering revelation. A study of the percentage of female students in top B Schools over the last 3 years shows that in maximum of the top 10 B Schools, more than one-third of the students are female. In the times of women empowerment and women –equality movements, this data has definitely proved the increasing inclusion of women in the men-dominating fields. While there haven’t been any major changes in the percentage of women students in top B Schools over the last 3 years, the statistics of 1 female student per 3 students ratio is quite satisfying.

While the percentage of female MBA students in top 10 B Schools across the world is quite high, in countries like India, the male-female ratio in top B Schools is quite skewed. Below is the data for female students in the top 3 B Schools in India for the academic year 2012-13.

Not only as compared to female MBA students ratio in B Schools in developing countries like India, the percentage of female MBA students in top 10 B Schools also poses as a surprise when seen against the percentage of women executive officers in Fortune 500 companies. Over the last 3 years, not only the percentage has remained below 15%, but it also has decreased. Similarly the percentage of board seats held by women in Fortune 500 companies is quite low.

With the decent percentage of female students in Top B Schools, we can hope the future picture of women representation in companies will be more inclusive. If achieved, it will be definitely a major step forward in the women-equality movement.
