When a student is all set to go abroad for higher studies, it is very important for him to get a health insurance because medical cost abroad is very high.

Most of the students don't understand the importance of medical insurance, and there is a common myth that a family health insurance plan is sufficient to cover medical expenses when the student is abroad. Usually, the family’s medical plan offers very limited coverage outside the home country. Thus it doesn’t serve the purpose in a foreign country. Hence, it is always better to take a second medical coverage even if you are insured through your parents’ medical plan. There are some countries that demand specific medical insurance requirements before provide the visa.

Some colleges themselves provide student medical insurance plan. While taking an international student health insurance keep in mind that:

a)  The insurance plan is covering all your needs in the country that you are going for higher studies. The health insurance must ideally have worldwide medical coverage. This will particularly help the students if their course demands travelling and staying in a different country.

b)  The plan is not excluding any coverage in a foreign country

c)  The plan covers the emergency medical evacuation and repatriation
