Masters in Hospital Administration - Hospital administration is the professional domain which is associated with the management, administration, leadership involved in hospitals, healthcare systems and hospital networks. A masters in hospital administration, therefore, essentially leads to a managerial role in healthcare. A postgraduate qualification in hospital administration is offered primarily as an MS in hospital administration, an MHA (Master of Hospital Administration) or an MBA degree. Due to the perennial nature of healthcare around the world and the lack of experts in the domain, the masters in hospital administration scope is tremendous. MS in hospital administration graduates generally obtain job roles as clinic managers, healthcare consultants, hospital administrators, and facility managers amongst others. Over the past years, with the increase in demand for experts in public health, the demand for masters in hospital administration in India has also increased, being one of the few multidisciplinary programs which has an ever-expanding job market. 


Masters in Hospital Administration: Eligibility

In order to be eligible to any of the top programs for a masters in hospital administration, applicants are required to have completed a three or four-year bachelor’s degree. Most universities which offer a masters in hospital administration in USA require a four-year bachelor’s qualification. The undergraduate qualification should ideally be in a related domain i.e. a bachelor’s qualification in science or a bachelor’s qualification in administration. Although universities prefer applicants with a background in science, most of the top universities accept applicants from other backgrounds if they display exceptional academic merit or affinity towards the masters in hospital administration program. Apart from this, the most universities also have a minimum GPA or CGPA requirement for applicants, this varies with the university of application.

  • Official transcripts from all previous academic institutions.

  • A curriculum vitae or a resume drafted to highlight skills and accomplishments which would contribute toward the program of application.

  • GRE General test scores are a requirement for most programs for masters in hospital administration. 

  • Some universities also accept GMAT scores in place of GRE General test scores. Often, MBA programs require GMAT scores rather than GRE scores.

  • English language proficiency test scores are a requirement for all universities for a masters abroad. These scores are most commonly from TOEFL iBT or IELTS Academic. Other popular tests include CAE and PTE Academic.   • Candidates are also required to submit two or three letters of recommendation depending upon the university of application.

  • An SOP or statement of purpose is one of the most crucial admission requirements. Some universities also ask for a personal statement in addition to the SOP.

  • Some universities require candidates to submit additional essay answers. This is often a requirement for MBA programs.

  • Applicants may also be required to appear for interviews or submit video essays for some universities.
