Before getting into a passage's specifics, take a minute to skim the text. Headings, subheadings, and highlighted text can be scanned to get a general idea of what to expect from the piece. Make a connection between the material and what you already know about the subject to help you grasp it better by drawing on your past knowledge. Additionally, expanding your vocabulary is a vital part of IELTS reading practice. Keep an eye out for unfamiliar words, research their meanings, and integrate them into your vocabulary. Keep an eye out for new terms, research their definitions, and incorporate them into your vocabulary. Recognise the primary concepts and corroborating information in a passage to comprehend its organisation. To effectively extract information, practise scanning for specific details and skimming for an overview. After reading, set a goal for yourself to summarise sections in your own words to help you comprehend them better. Asking questions, making predictions, and looking for clarification on unclear passages are all ways to interact with the text. Adapt your reading pace to the subject; certain sections can be rapidly skimmed, while others may need to be read more slowly and carefully. Reduce outside distractions to help you concentrate, and set up a comfortable space for reading. Once you've finished reading a passage, go back and consider its key points and relationships. Talk about the subject with mentors, instructors, or peers if you can to get different viewpoints. By consistently practicing these strategies, and incorporating them into your IELTS reading practice test routine and IELTS preparation online, you'll gradually enhance your ability to comprehend and analyze written material effectively.

    Let’s check a sample -

“This summer, with much fanfare and media attention, Koch handed Chalmers a case of wine in front of an audience of 800 scholars. The science journal Nature kept score: philosopher 1, neuroscientist 0. What went wrong? It isn’t that the past 25 years of consciousness studies haven’t been productive. The field has been incredibly rich, with discoveries and applications that seem one step from science fiction. The problem is that, even with all these discoveries, we still haven’t identified any neural correlates of consciousness. That’s why Koch lost the bet.

If the easy problem is this hard, what does that make the ‘hard problem’? Chalmers described the hard problem of consciousness as understanding why material beings like us have experience at all. Solving the hard problem would give us a secure theory of consciousness that explains the nature of conscious experience. Philosophers and scientists alike want to solve the hard problem, and to do so many are focusing on the easy problem. But all that attention is making the hard problem harder than it needs to be.”

    • Case of wine: This detail is part of the context and might be referenced in questions.

    B. Chalmers won the bet.

    C. The outcome of the bet is not mentioned in the passage.
