  • International students must have completed at least 12 years of education.

  • Students must have undergone a national or international examination recognized by the respective Ministry of Education in order to be applicable for a Malaysia student visa.

  • In the situation that the student visa applicant has completed his or her prior education in an English speaking country, scores for exams such as SAT, GRE, GMAT etc. are not required.

Malaysia Student Visa IELTS and TOEFL Requirement

In order for an individual to obtain a student visa for Malaysia, he or she needs to meet the English language proficiency test requirements.

The student visa applicant must submit scores for either IELTS or TOEFL.

Malaysia student visa IELTS requirement: In order to pursue education in Malaysia, a candidate must have an IELTSscore of at least 6.0.

Malaysia student visa TOEFL requirement: In order to study in Malaysia, a student must have the minimum TOEFLscore required by the Malaysian institution of admission.

 

Malaysia Student Visa Checklist for Documents Required

The general documents required for an applicant to study in Malaysia and apply for a student visa are:

  • A passport sized photograph with a white background and dimensions equal to 35mm * 45mm

  • A copy of the applicant's passport with all data excluding the empty pages

  • A copy of the offer letter from the institution of study in Malaysia

  • Copies of the applicant's academic transcripts and certificates

  • The applicant's Pre-arrival Medical Examination Report (Lab report and Chest X-ray report should be in English)

  • A Personal Bond from the Malaysian institution of admittance

  • English Language Proficiency test scores which can be either of the following:

  • PTE: Academic

  • IELTS

  • CAE

  • TOEFL

  • CPE

  • MUET

For the renewal of a student pass to continue one's study in Malaysia, the candidate is required to produce the following documents:

  • A passport sized photograph with a white background and dimensions equal to 35mm * 45mm

  • A copy of the applicant's passport with all data excluding the empty pages

  • Copies of all academic certificates, transcripts and/or records

Work Policy for Malaysia Student Visa Holders

Student visa holders studying at a Malaysian institution are allowed to work part-time for at most 20 hours a week only during holidays or breaks which last longer than a duration of 7 days. Prior to taking up employment, a Malaysia student visa holder is required to submit an application to work part-time via the Malaysian institution at which the student is pursuing education.

Malaysia student visa holders are not allowed to work as cashiers or in activities considered immoral by the Malaysian law.

Student Visa Fees for Malaysia

The various Malaysia student visa fees for the student visa application differ in accordance to the type of course and the type of institution for which the student is seeking to pursue education in Malaysia for. Additionally, medical insurance is a compulsory aspect of any student visa application for a Malaysia student visa. In addition to the visa, a students seeking to study in Malaysian institutions are required to obtain an I-Kad which is an official Malaysian identification card. The cost of medical insurance has not been included in the student visa application fees given below.

Malaysia Student Visa Renewal Requirements

In order to renew a student visa and continue one's education in Malaysian institutions, a student is required to obtain a minimum CGPA of 2.0 and maintain his or her attendance above 80%.

In case a student fails to meet these requirements the institution must submit a letter of explanation in support of the candidate's student visa application for visa renewal for the candidate to continue his or her study in Malaysia.

There are no restrictions on application dates for education in Malaysia at a Malaysian institution. An individual can apply for a Malaysia student visa at any time throughout the year.
