Below are the edited excerpts:

Q.What is the strength of the International student community in the University? What about Indian students?
A. With over 2,000 international students from 150 different countries we offer a truly international student community experience.  We currently have around 150 Indian students in total, and we welcome between 40-50 new Indian students each year.  Our first Indian students studied with us back in the 1940’s and we have a very active Indian alumni chapter.

Q. What is unique about your university in terms of academic culture and overall student experience?
A. To start with experience; we have a campus in Loughborough, 1 hour 15 minutes north of London,  that is the largest single site campus in the UK at over 400 acres (120 hectares).  It is safe, friendly, affordable and has the best sports facilities of any European university, winning the UK universities sports competition 34 years in a row.

We have been voted the UK’s best student experience for 6 years in a row and were this year voted the best student lifestyle in the UK with the best student support.  We then also have a new London campus opening in 2015 on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in central London that will offer a unique experience for students wanting a bigger city lifestyle and provide programmes in new exciting areas such as Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management, and Design and Digital Technologies.

Next, education quality; Loughborough has been consistently placed in the UK top 15 for the last decade.  11 of our departments have been ranked in the UK Top 10 this year.  In the 16 years since they were first introduced, Loughborough has also been awarded 7 of the prestigious Queen’s Anniversary Prizes that recognise research that is of national impact and importance, only Oxford has more with 9.  In the UK Government’s independent ranking for research we are a top 20 university and were the fastest growing for research in the UK.

Loughborough is one of the UK’s leading universities for Engineering and science; all of our Engineering departments are ranked within the top 10 or even top 5 in the UK for teaching. Research, as well as, our success in Engineering, we are also ranked number 1 for teaching and research in Fine Arts, but also Industrial and Engineering Design, and our Business School is among top 5.

Q.What are some of the popular programmes among students? What about Indian students?
A. We offer a wide range of programmes in Science, Engineering, Sport, Design, Art, Business, Economics and even Politics and International Relations.  Indian students go into a range of different Engineering fields such as Aeronautical, Automotive, Materials and Mechanical, as well as Finance, MBA, Industrial Design, Computer Science and Sports programmes.

Q.What are the admission criteria for international graduate students?
A. For undergraduate entry from India, we will consider students who have completed Standard 12th. They usually require an average of 75-85% across their best 4 subjects.  In terms of A-level or IB, we usually ask for ABB-AAA or 33-37 points.

For Postgraduate Masters level, most of our courses require a 2:1 or upper second class degree, this equates to around 60-65% from Indian universities, although in some cases we may be more flexible if the student has studied at a particularly prestigious local university.  Students also need to have a suitable IELTS score, usually 6.5 minimum overall, or another recognised English language test

Q.When do the applications open?
A. They open in September each year.

Q.Does your school offer financial aid to international students, particularly Indians? Please elaborate.
A. We have a number of scholarships in order to support and attract the best international and India students.  There are over 300 scholarships across undergraduate and postgraduate level.  Most scholarships are up to 25% of tuition fees.  A small number of schemes offer 50%, 75% and 100%, students are usually considered at the point of admission application for a scholarship.

Q.Many foreign students are worried about leaving the country because they do not know whether they will be able to find work to pay off their student debts. Do you guide your students in finding internships and jobs?
A. This is an excellent question. Loughborough is incredibly strong in this area.  Our award winning Careers and Employability Centre offers regular opportunities for students to engage directly with employers as well as training and workshops on writing good resumes/CV’s and interview practice.

We organise the biggest on-campus company placement fairs in the UK with over 300 companies attending every year including blue chip partners like Tata, Microsoft, IBM, Morgan Stanley, Apple, Rolls Royce, Ford, Unilever, Deloitte, PriceWaterhouseCooper, GlaxoSmithKline, Coca Cola, GE, 3M etc.

At Loughborough over 400 Engineering students each year go on an industrial placement with over 250 different companies, and around 300 students from the Business School. We are the UK's leading university for Engineering placements; sending 70% more students on year-long placements than any other university.  Students who complete a placement year receive an additional qualification called a Diploma in Industrial Studies (DIS). These placements can be in the UK or overseas.  Our graduate employability rates are at over 90%, and 97%.

Our student incubation centre provides students with advice and support to develop their business ideas .Our Innovation Centre has accounted for over 30 spin-out companies and 40 start-up companies.

is it hard to get into top universities with marks around 80s in ug and will I be eligilble for scholarships?

Masira 16th Dec, 2019
Hello,

The cutoffs of the top universities will be an important consideration when you think about admissions. Scoring 80's will help you get around 80% and it seems like a good score and will be able to help you get into good university. However, it purely depends on what is the cutoff of a particular university. The same goes for the scholarships. There are universities that will be providing scholarships bases on merits and you can check on the site of the college before applying to see what are their scholarship providing criteria. If you have a particular university or college in mind go through their official website to find relevant information that will help you make better decisions.

Hope this helps.

Dear Vinay, obtaining a permanent residency in UK is quite a lengthy process usually. Now UK has extended the stay for Indian Students post their studies by 2 years. Which means, even if you complete your studies, you can extend your stay by 2 more years.  It depends on the route you are applying through. The following visas require this time to apply for Indefinite leave to remain:

Marriage or unmarried partner to UK citizen: 2 years

Lawful stay on any basis which is a long stay: 10 years

Unlawful stay: 14 years

Tier 1 and Tier 2 work permit: 5 years

Investor, sportsperson, business owner, arts: 5 years

Ancestry: 5 years

If you manage to get a good paid job you can get permanent residency under work permit within 5 years.
