Les Roches: With three international campuses – China, Spain and Switzerland, and two affiliate institutions in Chicago and Jordan, the Les Roches International School of Hotel Management spreads the quality of Swiss hospitality education through in depth programs in the five countries. Through these international campuses, Les Roches aims to inculcate students with a strong higher education base to guide them in the hospitality sector around the world.
In this series of #Admissions Connect, we have Sonia Tatar, CEO of Les Roches Worldwide, who decodes the university for you. Know all about the admissions criteria, scope and the admission cycle of Les Roches International School of Hotel Management.
Below are the edited excerpts:
Q. What is unique about your college in terms of academic culture and overall student experience?A. A unique feature of Les Roches is its global outlook. With branch campuses in Marbella, Spain, and Shanghai, China, and affiliate institutions in Chicago, USA, and Amman, Jordan, our international student body can choose from a range of different study abroad options and gather experience and language skills in some of the world’s leading tourism markets.
Les Roches prides itself in promoting entrepreneurship throughout its collection of programs. By attending different leadership and innovation specializations, classes and seminars, students are inspired by Les Roches’ innovative environment and encouraged to exchange ideas and develop their own business projects.
Q. What are the admission criteria for international students?A. The requirements for enrolment in Les Roches’ undergraduate programmes include being at least 18 years old by the time students start their studies or their first internship, having a high school diploma or equivalent and demonstrating a minimum level of English proficiency to successfully pursue their studies. Students who do not meet the English language requirements have the possibility of registering for our Intensive English Language Program to acquire the entry English level.
Postgraduate diploma and Master of Science (MS, available at Les Roches Switzerland) students are usually 21 years old or above, hold an accredited bachelor’s degree and ideally have a minimum of 2 years of professional experience.
Master of Business Administration (MBA, available at Les Roches Switzerland) students are usually 24 years old or above, hold an accredited 4-year degree and ideally have a minimum of 2 years of professional experience.
Q. When do the applications open?A. Most of Les Roches’ programmes have two intakes per year without a specific opening date. For the January/February intake, applications close by November 15. For the July/August intake, applications close by May 15. An exception is the Global BBA, which only accepts new students every January/February.
At Les Roches Jin Jiang, there are four intakes per year: February, May, September and November. The main round of applications for all programs closes two months before the official starting date of the preferred intake.
Q. Does your school offer financial aid to international students, particularly Indians? Please elaborate.A. Les Roches, Switzerland and Les Roches Marbella provide a limited number of scholarships for new students. The scholarships are competitive and linked to Les Roches’ admissions strategy, which aims to assist motivated young people to study at our institution. Each scholarship has specific criteria and eligibility for a scholarship is examined on a case-by-case basis.
Below is a sample of the different scholarships that are available for future students.
Presidential Scholarship (10%, 15%, 20% reductions on tuition)
Alumni and Children of Alumni (10%)
Hotelier (HOSPITALITY) Scholarship (10%)
However, all scholarships are awarded on tuition fees only – not including room and board charges.
Additionally, branch campuses Les Roches Marbella and Les Roches Jin Jiang both offer preferential conditions on student loan programs with partnering financial institutions.
Q. Many foreign students are worried about leaving the country because they do not know whether they will be able to find work to pay off their student debts. Do you guide your students find internships and jobs?A. The Career Development & Industry Placement (CDIP) Offices on all Les Roches campuses provide assistance to students in all aspects of their job search, from drafting CVs to securing internships during their studies and a position upon graduation. These efforts reflect in our strong track record of high employability of graduates, with an over 80% of students either employed or with several offers on graduation day (average across campuses, 2013 data).
Thanks to strong industry relations, leading companies in and outside of hospitality such as Louis Vuitton or Bloomberg TV visit our schools to give presentations, interview students and recruit interns and graduates directly on campus. These strong ties with industry leaders are also crucial in identifying industry trends and new development, which allows us to adapt academic programmes to meet shifting industry needs.
