1.   Commonwealth Scholarships for Master’s and PhD study

One of the most prized scholarships among students looking for fully funded international scholarships in UK, the Commonwealth Scholarships for Master’s and PhD study is reserved for citizens of the developing Commonwealth countries. It is funded by the Department for International Development (DFID), UK, and seeks to advance the UK’s international development plans and international interests. Recipients of the Commonwealth Scholarship are eligible to take up studies in educational institutes in the UK with which the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) shares a part funding agreement.

The scholarship is open for Master’s and PhD students and covers all subjects.


Eligibility: Important criteria to apply for the scholarship include:

  • Be a citizen of the Commonwealth country, a refugee, or a person under the protection of Britain

  • Be a permanent resident of a developing Commonwealth country

In addition, applicants may also be required to submit their IELTS scores. The minimum overall score is 6.5, with at least 5.5 in individual bands.

Application deadline: The CSC receives a specified number of nominations from its nominated bodies every year. The deadline for submitting nominations generally closes in the month of December. Applications are strictly selected on merit and there are no country-specific quotas.

Only full-time, residential degree-earning students can apply for the Gates scholarship.

Every year the university offers 55 Gates Cambridge Scholarship, selected from some 3500 applications.


Eligibility: Before you apply for the scholarship, make sure that you are

  • A citizen of any country other than the United Kingdom

  • Applying to a full-time residential course from among the following:

    - PhD (three-year research-only degree)

    - MSc or MLitt (two-year research-only degree)

    - One - year postgraduate courses (including MPhil, LLM, Diploma, MBA etc.)

Value: There are two components of the scholarship: Core and Discretionary components

Core Components: It comprises

  • The University Composition Fees

  • Maintenance allowance of £14,300 for 12 months per student

  • To and from economy ticket at the beginning and end of the course

  • Refund of inbound visa and associated NHS surcharge cost.

Discretionary components: In addition to the core components, there are other benefits the applicant can claim.

  • Academic development funding between £500 and £1,500, which can be used to attend conferences and courses.

  • Family allowance includes child support of up to £9,630 for the first child and £4,110 for the next. Spousal support is not available.

  • Hardship funding –to help students in case of unexpected urgencies

Application Deadline: For US students, the application window is September to October. For other countries, applications can be sent between September and December.

3. Reach Oxford Scholarship

Considered to be the oldest university in the English-speaking world, the University of Oxford is a landmark institution that has played a significant role in the evolution of the human civilisation and remains a center of academic excellence. The Reach Oxford Scholarship is available for students seeking admission to this revered institution and a source of hope for many students who seek fully funded international scholarships in UK to sponsor their studies.


The scholarship is given across all disciplines, except Medicine.


Eligibility: Applicants need to be citizens of countries which are recipient of official development assistance offered by Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).


Only new undergraduate students can apply for this scholarship.


Value: The scholarship covers tuition fees, living expenses and one way airfare every year. The duration of the scholarship is generally 3 to 4 years, depending on the length of the course


Application Deadline: The application process begins in mid-January every year –students who receive offers to study at Oxford for the October session are eligible to apply for the process. The application deadline is mid-February.


4.   Developing Solutions Masters Scholarship

Developing Solutions Master’s Scholarship is part of the most prestigious international scholarship program –Developing Solutions, which is extended by the University of Nottingham to postgraduate masters courses. In the last decade alone, more than 1,000 students from Africa and the developing countries of the Commonwealth have benefited from the Developing Scholarship. 

The scholarship granting committee generally looks out for candidates who have the potential to make distinguishable developments in their native country.


Value: There are 105 scholarships up for grabs.

  • 30 x 100% tuition fee

  • 75 x 50% of tuition fees

Thirty of these scholarships cover the full tuition fees, while there is 50 percent fee waiver for the remaining 75 seats. So, if you are looking for fully funded international scholarships in UK or something along similar lines, you must definitely check this scholarship out.

Application Deadline: Applications are generally accepted in the later part of the year.


Eligibility: You will be eligible for the scholarship if you

  • Are a citizen of Africa, India or any of the Commonwealth countries

  • Are paying your fees under the overseas category and travelling abroad to study for the first time

  • Currently aren’t pursuing any academic program at a University of Nottingham campus or have never been a University of Nottingham graduate

  • Have an offer for pursuing full-time master’s program at the University of Nottingham for September intake in the Faculty of Engineering; Medicine and Health Sciences; Science and

    Social Science.

5.   Developing Solutions/Allan & Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust Scholarship

Yet another scholarship program offered under the Developing Solutions program –the flagship scholarship program offered by the University of Nottingham, it offers full tuition fees to students pursuing post graduate studies in the university. Currently three Developing Solutions/Allan & Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust Scholarships are on offer. 


Value: Full tuition fees for the duration of study

Eligibility: You can apply for the scholarship if you are

  • A native of Africa, India or any of the Commonwealth countries

  • Paying your fees as an overseas student

  • Studying in a foreign academic institute for the first time

  • Currently not admitted to any University of Nottingham campuses or a University graduate.

  • The recipient of an offer to pursue full-time master’s degree program at the University of Nottingham for September intake in the Faculties of Engineering, Medicine & Health Sciences, Science, School of Geography, Business School and School of Law.

Application deadline: Students who are considering applying for the scholarship are strictly advised to send in their application for study in the university well ahead of the scholarship closing date –at least six weeks in advance, so that the Admission office can process your application and confirm the offer.


6.   The Rhodes Scholarships

The Rhodes Scholarships are meant for postgraduate students studying at the University of Oxford with outstanding all-round credentials. Sponsored by the Rhodes Trust and Second Century Founder, McCall MacBain, apart from a few other benefactors, each year 89 scholars are selected for the scholarship program from across the world, including India. The scholarship covers a spectrum of areas offered by the University of Oxford.  With more and more students trying to avail fully funded international scholarships in UK, the significance of The Rhodes Scholarship continues to grow. 

Value: Rhodes Scholars are eligible for a number of benefits including

  • University and college fees

  • Stipend of £13,658 (UK pounds), as living expenses, which can extend from two to three years.

Eligibility: The main highlights of the selection criteria include

  • Fulfillment of citizenship criteria from which the candidate is applying

  • The age limit is between 18 to 28 years. The candidate needs to verify with his chosen consistency for the exact age limit. In most constituencies, the average age limit is 24-25 years.

Application deadline: Application for the scholarship takes places between the spring and summer of the preceding year.  Applications usually open in April and the aspirants should submit their completed forms by end of July.

7.  Leeds Anniversary Research Scholarships (LARS)

The Leeds Anniversary Research Scholarships (LARS) is offered by the University of Leeds every year to students from all nationalities. With as many as 128 fully funded places up for grabs, the scholarship presents a great opportunity to students to get into one of the top educational institutes in the UK; outstanding scholars of any discipline can apply for the funding. It is one of the first stops among students looking for fully funded scholarships in UK.


 Value: Successful applicants are eligible for a maintenance grant of £14,057, in addition to university tuition fees for a maximum three years.


Eligibility: For your application to be considered, you must

  • Be a UK/EU or any international fee paying applicant

  • Have scored a minimum upper second class (2:1) honors degree at the undergraduate level

  • If English not your first langue, you need to submit test scores of tests like TOEFL/IELTS/PTE. Leeds accepts IELTS score of 6 while the TOEFL or PTE scores should be at least 87 and 60 respectively.

  • Not availing any award or studying for a doctoral degree

  • Not be a recipient of a doctoral scholarship

8. Imperial College PhD Scholarship scheme

The Imperial College PhD Scholarship scheme is open to highly meritorious undergraduate and Master’s students. Successful applicants are entitled to full tuition fees waiver in addition to generous stipend for pursuing PhD at the Imperial College of London, making it a favorite among students looking for fully funded international scholarships in UK. The total number of scholarships on offer is 50.

Value: The scholarship period will be for a maximum 3.5 years and will cover

  • Tuition Fees

  • A stipend of £20,600 as living expense

  • A consumables fund of £2,000 per annum (only for the first three years)


  • Applications are received from all nationalities and applicants must have a first-class UK degree or its equivalent

  • Master’s degree holders must have passed the degree with a distinction, or if the applicant is awaiting the master’s degree result, they must provide evidence of high performance.

  • Students also need to submit their English language proficiency test scores with minimum 110, 8.0 or 76 in TOEFL, IELTS and PTE repectively.

Application deadline: The application process generally takes place between August and November.


9.   Inlaks Scholarship

The Inlaks Scholarship picks bright young students with exception credentials across different fields and pitches them into an academic environment abroad where they get to polish their social skills and finally turn out to be an asset to the society. The Inlaks Scholarship is broadly categorized into two categories: university courses and specific programs.

University and institutions covered by Inlaks Scholarship: Students can avail the scholarship to get admission to all top educational institutes in America, Europe and the UK. The scholarship also sponsors special projects that aren’t part of the traditional university set-up.


Value: Scholarships under the category “University Courses” are eligible for up to US$100,000 in financial aids, which cover tuition fees and living expenses. One way airfare is another component of the Inlaks Scholarship. All these make it one of the most coveted scholarships.

Eligibility: For your application to be considered, you must

  • Be an Indian citizen and living in the country at the time of application form submission

  • Have acquired an excellent first degree from a recognized university in India

  • Post graduate degree holders ,or those who are in the process of getting one, from a university abroad will not be considered for the scholarship

  • Students need to first get admitted to the institution of their choice before they can apply for the scholarship. Also, the said institute must belong to the top bracket

  • Age limit: The applicant mustn’t be more than 30 years on the first of July during the application year.

Application Deadline: The last day for form submission is April 15 (which is the same every year).

Note: Students need to apply for the scholarship in paper format as there is no online application system in place.

10.   University of Westminster Full International Scholarships

The University of Westminster Full International Scholarships rank among the most competitive scholarships available for undergraduate students studying at the University of Westminster. Each year, the university receives over a hundred applications for this prestigious scholarship which is open to international students.
