There are many factors that need to be taken into account while applying to a foreign university. Unlike Indian universities, universities abroad offer a large variety of courses in various disciplines. Hence, it will be difficult for a prospective student to zero in on a course he/she wants to study abroad.

Find the best course for you abroad

Mansie Dewan, MBA consulting expert

“Your career goals should be crystal clear to make this decision. If you want to stay in the core area of expertise or desiring to get into research or development, you should pursue masters in technology or science. But to grow at a faster pace and be equipped to take up leadership roles in future, opt for MBA.”

There are some factors that help students to choose between the courses and take a final decision. They are given below.

Job Opportunities

This is one of the most important factors that helps students in finalising their course.  You must have a clear idea about  job opportunities of the courses that you intend to pursue. You can select the course which has more opportunities in terms of jobs and pay scale. Again, you must have a clear plan as regards to the country where you want to work. Some students want to work in the country they studied while others prefer returning to their homeland.

Course Fee

Apart from job opportunities, the other important factor that determines the course is fee. The fee of each course varies depending on various factors. If the student is confused about selecting a course then he/she should opt for a less expensive course. However, the student must not compromise on the knowledge he/she wants to gain for the course fee.

University ranking in the course opted for

Sometimes students have confusion in choosing between same course offered by different universities. In such a situation, the best thing is to do a comparison between universities on the basis of the rankings. Every year, various international ranking agencies come up with university rankings that help students to choose the best university to study.

Placement record

The placement record is one major factor that determines the selection of the course. There are some universities that offer both MS and MA degrees and there are some universities that offer MBA and MS in the same discipline. In such situations, look at the placement record of the courses and then take the final call.
