The top universities in Singapore offer a host of scholarships to study in Singapore. Important among them are Science & Technology (S&T) Undergraduate Scholarship to study in National University Singapore, and Renaissance Engineering Programme Scholarship (REPS) and Nanyang Scholarship to pursue higher education at Nanyang Technological University.

Dr. Goh Keng Swee Scholarship

The Dr. Goh Keng Swee Scholarship is set by the Singaporean financial community in the honour of the former Deputy Prime Minister who was the driving force behind making Singapore an international financial centre.

Offered by the Association of Banks in Singapore (ABS), the Dr Goh Keng Swee (GKS) Scholarship is a private sector scholarship. The scholarship is offered to aspirants from 15 countries of the Asia Pacific region. The countries are Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, PRC, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. This study in Singapore scholarship is offered to undergraduate aspirants from the abovementioned countries to study at National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore Management University (SMU) and Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD).

Eligibility criteria for Dr. Goh Keng Swee Scholarship

Dr GKS Scholarship is available to citizens from Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, PRC, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. This Singapore scholarship is not available to citizens and PRs of Singapore. The eligibility criteria of the scholarship are:

  • Aspirants should simultaneously apply to NUS, NTU, SMU or SUTD for undergraduate courses with an exception of medicine. The admission guidelines and deadlines outlined by the universities will remain the same.

  • The aspirant should have strong leadership skills along with demonstrated academic as well as extra and co-curricular achievements.

  • The aspirant should have taken SAT exam.

Dr. Goh Keng Swee Scholarship: Benefits

This scholarship in Singapore is offered to undergraduate aspirants from 15 Asia Pacific nations. The study in Singapore aspirants can opt to study any course in the higher institutions in Singapore except medicine. The scholarship provides financial assistance to 3-4 aspirants every year for a maximum of 4 years of undergraduate study (including Honours). It offers:

  • Full tuition and other compulsory fees;

  • Airfare (return airfare from and to the home country to Singapore)

  • Yearly maintenance allowance of SGD6500;

  • Institution-based hostel allowance 

  • One-time settling-in allowance of SGD200 upon arrival in Singapore.

  • The scholarship to study in Singapore will be reviewed annually and will be only continued if the academic performance of the candidate is found to be satisfactory.

Dr. Goh Keng Swee Scholarship: Scholarship Bond

The GKS scholarship in Singapore awardees have to serve for three years after completing their education in:

  • An approved company in Singapore; or

  • An approved Singapore-based company in their home country

The deployment of scholarship holders to serve their bonds will be determined by the Dr GKS Scholarship Fund.


Application Deadlines for Dr. Goh Keng Swee Scholarship

The deadline for applying to Dr GKS Scholarship 2018 application has begun on 1 November 2018 and end on 15 March 2019 at 23:59, Singapore time.

Shortlisted candidates for the scholarship in Singapore will be required to sit for an online personality profiling test in Mar/Apr 2018. The selected applicants will be required to attend the final interview at Singapore in end–May 2019. Alternate arrangements will be made for applicants who are not able to travel to Singapore.


Singapore International Graduate Award

The Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) is given to international students interested in pursuing a PhD in Science and Engineering at designated universities in Singapore.


Singapore International Graduate Award: Universities

According to the guidelines of Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA), the aspirants can pursue PhD in Science and Engineering at the following institutions or universities:

  • Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR)

  • National University of Singapore (NUS)

  • Nanyang Technological University (NTU)

  • Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD)

Eligibility for Singapore International Graduate Award

The SINGA scholarship is available to all international students with excellent academic records. The eligibility criteria also of this scholarship in Singapore disqualifies citizens and PR’s of Singapore to apply for the scholarship. Additionally, the applicants should have proven good command in written and spoken English. The complete eligibility criteria are:

  • Open to all international students

  • No age limit

  • Applicants with a passion for research and excellent academic profile

  • Good command in written and spoken English

  • Good recommendations from academic referees

Singapore International Graduate Award: Benefits

SINGA is an extremely beneficial scholarship for those aspiring to study in Singapore from all over the world. The scholarship pays an attractive stipend to the awardees as well as tuition for the duration of the study.

  • Monthly stipend for over 4 years of PhD

  • Stipend amount is SGD 24,000 annually, to be increased to SGD 30,000 after passing the Qualifying Exam

  • Tuition fees for 4 years of PhD studies

  • A conditional one-time SGD 1,000 allowance for settling-in

  • A conditional one-time airfare Grant of SGD 1,500

The Singapore International Graduate Award is an annual award with the applications close in June for the following year. The applications for this scholarship in Singapore for 2020 will open in January 2019.

Asian Development Bank/Japan Scholarship Program (JSP)

A very well known scholarship to study in Singapore is the Asian Development Bank/Japan Scholarship Program (JSP). This Singaporean scholarship is offered to approximately 150 graduate applicants in the subject area of economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions.

  • Special courses like computer literacy, preparatory language and similar courses may also be covered in the scholarship.

Applications Deadlines for Asian Development Bank/Japan Scholarship Program (JSP)

ADB-JSP scholarship aspirants applying for the scholarship should mention the institution they are applying to. The completed application along with the required documents is to be submitted to the institution together. The applicants are also required to submit their latest Income tax return or certification of their annual salary/monthly salary, whichever is available, with the application. Along with the application, the applicants are also required to submit a certification of family income (parent's income).

Applicants should indicate to the academic institution that they are applying for admission and that they would like to be considered for the ADB-JSP Scholarship. The completed institution application form and required documentation, including the ADB-JSP application sheet form, should be submitted to the academic institution. Applicants must ensure that they submit accurate and complete documentation. Failure to do so may result in an application not being processed or to an award being terminated if documentation or information provided is later determined to be false. Applicants are required to submit their latest Income tax return or certification of their annual salary/monthly salary, whichever is available. They should also submit a certification of family income (parent's income).
Applications for scholarships should be sent at least six months prior to the planned time that you wish to commence studies.
