Q. What does the MBA program focus on and why?

A. The Edinburgh Business School at Heriot Watt University has launched a one year full time programme which will commence in September 2017 at the Edinburgh campus. It has an entrepreneurial focus and international flavour. We aim to develop tomorrow’s leaders for tomorrow’s markets. Therefore, we seek to give students strong management training as well as help them build a useful network.

Q. How this programme different from the MBA offered by other universities?

A. The unique programme offers a host of exciting initiatives including an intensive, six-week study period in Dubai, company visits, guest speakers, professional skills development workshops and a final elective where students develop an investor-ready business plan. Students will also benefit from one-to-one business mentoring while developing their plan.

We take the view that the skills and behaviour of the entrepreneur can be learned and applied. One of the benefits of our MBA with a focus on entrepreneurship is that we will provide our students with the necessary academic and non-academic support (including a variety of personal skills masterclasses and networking opportunities) to help make their ‘Big Dreams’ a reality.

Professor Heather McGregor, Executive Dean, added, “I believe that social capital is as important as human capital for business leaders and that is why the whole course has been designed to help every student build a strong and international network”.

Q. What are the scholarship and funding options available for the aspirants? Is there a separate procedure to apply for the scholarships?

A. In recognition of the shortage of top women business leaders worldwide, Edinburgh Business School offersone female applicant a fully-funded place on the new full-time MBA programme. The scholarship is offered in conjunction with the 30% Club.

Q. What skills do you seek in applicants for MBA entrepreneurship?

A. We seek individuals who want to develop an entrepreneurial mind set and who are open to international perspectives on business opportunity.

Q. How supporting the degree will be in building professional networks, seeking venture capital for an aspirant of such niche?

A. Our role is to provide people with the tools they need to advance; those include both human capital, i.e. the technical skills of management, and social capital, i.e. the opportunity to build a network with people who will be able to support them. We are committed to helping potential entrepreneurs to become all they can be by developing their human capital (what you know) and social capital (who you know). Edinburgh Business School has over 20,000 graduates in 166 countries around the world. On completion of the MBA our students will become part of a powerful international network and will also have an investor-ready business plan. We aim for them to graduate with the ability to present their business plans to a wide stakeholder audience.

Q. Is there any placement support from the University? Is there any kind of support provided to  the students to help them start their own venture?

A. As we are a Tier 1 Graduate Entrepreneurship endorsing institution, we offer selected MBA students the opportunity to start their business after graduation, subject to visa rules.
