CIWG Quota in Top Engineering Colleges in Haryana – Person of Indian Origin (PIO), Foreign Nationals (FN) and Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries (CIWG) aspiring to study in top engineering colleges in Haryana have the option of applying under FN/PIO/CIWG quota. All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has allowed 15% reservation over and above the ‘approved intake’ on a supernumerary basis for admitting students from FN or Overseas Citizenship of India card holders (OCI) or PIO or CIWG. Out of this 15%, one third shall be reserved for CIWG quota. There are 141 AICTE approved engineering colleges in Haryana which had a total intake of 50171 in 2017-2018. As much as 181 seats are reserved under PIO/FN/CIWG quota in top engineering colleges of Haryana. Four-year bachelors in a variety of courses from Information Technology to Textile are available, with different seats reserved for each course. Top engineering colleges in Haryana are affiliated to Kurukshetra University, which is responsible for conferring the degree upon students after completion of the course.
Students applying through Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries (CIWG) Quota in Top Engineering Colleges in Haryana have to submit the prescribed form along with attested copies of required documents, and pay the non-refundable registration fee.
Foreign Nationals should note that international students sponsored by ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) are admitted every year to top engineering colleges in Haryana. Foreign Nationals seeking admission under CIWG quota need a student Visa endorsed to the Kurukshetra University for joining the programme. After obtaining the visa for the duration of the course, a copy is to be submitted to the university. NRI students do not need a visa to study in top engineering colleges in Haryana.
If the course on which eligibility is relied upon is not included in a list by the Association of Indian Universities(AIU), an Equivalence certificate needs to be obtained from AIU to establish the equivalence of said course. All foreign students who have passed the qualifying examination from foreign universities must furnish an Eligibility certificate regarding the said examination. The eligibility certificate will be issued by the Registration branch on checking the required original documents along with the student’s visa.
Engineering admission for NRI students is available in top engineering colleges in Haryana. Non-Resident Indian (NRI) students can also apply under CIWG quota given that the student has studied and passed the qualifying examination from schools or colleges in a foreign country. This will also include schools or colleges situated in a foreign country even if affiliated with a Board of Education in India. However, this will not include dependents of NRI studying in India.
The student should either be a Foreign National or Person Of Indian Origin or Overseas Citizenship of India card holder or Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries to apply under CIWG quota:
Foreign Student - Students holding passports issued by foreign countries including Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) who have acquired the nationality of foreign countries.
Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) - are the citizen of other countries (except Pakistan and Bangladesh) who at any time held an Indian Passport, or who or either of his/her parents or grandparents was a citizen of India by virtue of the Constitution of India.
Overseas Citizenship of India - is a pseudo-citizenship scheme established because the constitution of India does not permit full dual citizenship. An OCI card, which is a long-term visa with restrictions on voting rights and government jobs, acts as the proof of OCI and is available to certain PIOs.
CIWG - stands for Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries. CIWGC is a scheme generated by the Ministry of India for the children of Indian expatriates (Blue Collar Workers) in Gulf countries.
Documents given below are required to be submitted for verification at the time of applying for admission under CIWG quota:
Equivalence Certificate obtained from Association of Indian Universities
Transcripts of senior secondary school or equivalent
Senior secondary school or equivalent certificate along with passing certificate of qualifying examination
Character Certificate from the head of the institution last attended
Medical Certificate – all international students have to undergo a medical examination and obtain a medical fitness certificate.
Registration in Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO): International students have to register their name with the FRRO. Following documents have to be submitted by the admitted students to the Office of the Advisor, International Students :
