CIWG Quota in Top Engineering Colleges in Gujarat – Person of Indian Origin (PIO), Foreign Nationals (FN) and Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries (CIWG) aspiring to study in top engineering colleges in Gujarat have the option of applying under FN/PIO/CIWG quota. All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has allowed 15% reservation over and above the ‘approved intake’ on a supernumerary basis for admitting students from FN or Overseas Citizenship of India card holders (OCI) or PIO or CIWG. Out of this 15 %, one third shall be reserved for CIWG quota. There are 140 AICTE approved engineering colleges in Gujarat which had a total intake of 69842 in 2017-2018. As much as 261 seats are reserved under PIO/FN/CIWG quota in top engineering colleges in Gujarat. Four-year bachelors in a variety of streams from Civil, Automobile to Information Technology and Aeronautical are available with different seats reserved for each course. Engineering admission for NRI students is available in top engineering colleges in Gujarat but there is no separate NRI quota. NRI students can apply under CIWG quota if they fulfil the eligibility criteria or in the general category similar to an Indian student. Candidates applying for supernumerary seats under CIWG quota are not required to appear for the GUJCET examination. Admission under CIWG quota is conducted by the Admission Committee for Professional Courses(ACPC), Gujarat. ACPC invites applications from eligible candidates under the category of Foreign Nationals (FN)/Persons of India Origin (PIO)/Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries for admission to degree Engineering & Technology courses in Gujarat. Candidates must fill the application form to be considered for admission under CIWG quota and send it to the Member Secretary of ACPC along with photocopies of required documents and a demand draft of 100USD or 6000 INR.
A merit list, based on the marks obtained by the candidate in the qualifying examination will be displayed on ACPC’s website inviting candidates to confirm their admission under CIWG quota. On the day of counselling, candidates must be present at ACPC with all original documents and equivalency certificate for verification. On allotment of admission under CIWG quota, the candidate must pay the requisite tuition fee.
Foreign students can get admission under CIWG quota to top engineering colleges in Gujarat through Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) fellowship. The merit list of eligible candidates will be provided by the ICCR, Ministry of External Affairs.
Any candidate which has passed his/her qualifying examination from a school or examination board situated outside India, except all Indian boards, must obtain an equivalency certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
CIWG Quota: Eligibility Criteria for Gujarat Engineering Colleges
Students should fulfil the eligibility criteria to be considered for admission under CIWG quota to top engineering colleges in Gujarat:
Educational Qualification - For the purpose of admission, a candidate should have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Technical Vocational subject as compulsory subjects and an at least 45% in the above subjects taken together
The student must either be a Foreign National (FN), Person of Indian Origin (PIO) or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), Children of Indian workers in Gulf Countries (CIWG) to be considered under CIWG quota:
Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries and South East Asia - are candidates whose parents are working in Gulf countries or South East Asia. Gulf candidate is a candidate whose parent has the “NRI status” as defined under section 6 of the Income Tax Act, 1961 and currently works in a gulf country.
Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) - are citizens of other countries (except Pakistan and Bangladesh) without ‘NRI’ status who at any time held an Indian Passport, or either of his/her parents or any of his grandparents was a citizen of India by virtue of the Constitution of India or Sec 2(b) of Citizenship Act, 1955
Overseas Citizenship of India - is a pseudo-citizenship scheme established because the constitution of India does not permit full dual citizenship. An OCI card, which is a long-term visa with restrictions on voting rights and government jobs, acts as proof of OCI and is available to certain PIOs.
Foreign Nationals (FN) – are citizens of all countries other than India, who are not of Indian origin as defined under PIO
CIWG Quota: Documents Required for Gujarat Engineering Colleges
Candidates seeking admission under CIWG quota must enclose the documents given below with the application form and make originals available for verification. All the documents must be attested by the Ministry of Education and Indian Embassy in student’s country or the student’s Embassy or Consulate in India:
Recent Passport Size Photographs
Certified copy of Marks or Grade Sheet of the Qualifying Examination i.e. Higher Secondary School (10+2) or intermediate or senior secondary or pre-university examination. In case of grade sheet, an equivalent mark sheet issued by the competent authority. The document must be translated if it is in a language other than English and translated version along with the original must be provided.
Secondary School (Xth) examination mark sheet.
Birth Certificate or an Examination Certificate Showing Date of Birth
Original Passport or Citizenship Card in case of students from Nepal or Bhutan
Copy of Letter Showing Award of Scholarship from Indian Embassy of Country of Origin, if applicable
Student Visa if already obtained
Student’s Affidavit form
Proof of Nationality status of the Student or the parents or sponsor if applicable
Medical Fitness Certificate to be availed from Sola Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad.
Recommendation letter from the Dean or appropriate authority from the institute last attended
Equivalency certificate issued by Association of Indian University in case the candidate has passed qualifying examination from any school/board/university outside India.
School leaving or transfer certificate from the head of the institute last attended
For Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries(CIWG), additional documents are required:
Passport of a parent working in gulf country.
Work permit of the parent
Letter from the employer of parent on company letterhead
Resident permit or card to prove residence in gulf country
Residence (address) proof.
For Person of Indian Origin(PIO), PIO or Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) card must be submitted by the candidate at the time of admission under CIWG quota.
For Foreign National, a Migration Certificate and a Residential Permit with necessary changes from FRO must be submitted for admission under CIWG quota.
